Has anyone used any of the other oil plug locations on the driver side of block, right above oil pan? There are 5 and are on the same galley for the mains.

Installing Classic Instruments oil pressure gauge on a 1974 GM454. As below they do not recommend using location right above oil filter. I know some had used the oil plug on the driver side front but alternator is in the way.

Classic Instruments oil pressure gauge installation.

GM INSTALLATIONS: The correct location on most GM V8-engines to install the oil pressure sender is under the distributor housing at the rear of the block. Use the 2 piece bushing kit provided to allow the sender to be mounted at a 45-degree angle pointing towards the driver’s knees. This allows the sender to clear the back of the intake manifold, the underside of the distributor housing and also the firewall.

GM INSTALLATION – Big Block Engines: We do NOT recommend installing Classic Instrument’s oil pressure sender in the opening located just above the oil filter on some big block GM engines. This location may not be a full-pressure passage but instead a “by-pass” oil passageway. Installing our pressure sender at this location may result in some strange low-pressure readings under certain driving conditions. This does not
indicate a defective instrument or sender! It simply means you need to move the sender to the correct location.

I ran a lot of Big Block Chevrolets back in the late 60's and early 70's. 396/427 and 454's also. I always used the port on the side of the block just at the clutch linkage :D

Never had a issue ... but they were the Generation 1 blocks. Nothing newer than a 1972 over the counter block.

Why not do as the Classis Instruments instructions say ??
That is where I have both my 32's ... with SBC's.

Should be fine in that location on a 1974 454 truck motor. That's the stock sender location. They moved things around on the later big blocks, from the 90s and newer.

Hello EDPACECAR did you go with installing it above the oil filter ? I am doing the same thing and for the life of me can not locate the port on the top back of the block? My space is really tight back up against the firewall and I also think my intake is covering the port. Thank you in advance for any of your findings!

I have mine run at the front port on the drivers side, by the motor mount. Works fine, but is a lot of copper tubing to run into the car.
