Yeah Im not offended either, not only because Im an Aussie but also because Cuba did the same thing to the US Now back to this cool story.
Thanx for the confirmation bro, I really appreciate that. I'll have to admit some of the story is a bit mixed up in it's chronological order and as it evolves we do want to make sure the story is told correctly. So we need to start from the beginning. So here goes gang, In a conversation this morning, Mark Moriarity claims that Darryl Starbird had purchased the Orbitron back in 1967 from Ed for $ 750.00. Starbird sold or traded it a few years after that but forgot who exactly he sold it to. Several years ago Mark placed an add in a Texas publication because it was rumored the car had been sighted. Mark got a couple of responses one of which said that he had seen the car in 1973 at a show and the nose had already been removed at that time! So now we are assuming that this modification was done very early in the game. As far as the time in between we will be updating some facts with the gentleman that "Drive Em" is referring to within his post shortly, so stay tuned.. The Plot Thickens! M
Sincere Thanx to you with tolerance over the big pond. Something a bit off the subject; but do any of you guys know of my mate John R. Marshall A.K.A. Mad Jack from OZ! Big Roth and Drag Racing Enthusiast! Writes independently for a couple of your Hot Rodding magazines over there. If ya see'em, tell'em we miss his face and it is time for him to jump a plane and get out this way, the Bushmaster just turned 70 and is getting ready to open up his museum soon! With that, the Orbitron and plans for a new drag strip in the Antelope Valley he needs to bring his laptop because there are articles to be written. M
Anwww;fuck it Moldy, one of my good friends lives in Australia, and when he came over here we dubbed him "Chain Dragger"....He got the meaning, and still found it funny..Hell,the name stuck with him to this day...
and the three color headlight to produce white would work.. think of it as a projection big screen tv they will produce white along with any other color of the rainbow...
Unbelievable!!! Only here on the HAMB, do we get treats like this! The rest of the world is missing out. So,...I'll bet the nose section is still in Texas somewhere, put out an APB! What I'd dig to see, would be photos taken by attendees at these carnivals back in the day, depicting the owner driving around in the Orbitron. Put out another APB!
As a funny side note to the story, I was talking to my buddy who owns the car about the car, and I asked him what happened to the buuble top that the car originally had. He told me that our mutual friend who owned it in the 70's got stuck inside the car one day, and that he had to break his way out of the car, thus destroying the top in the process!!
Moldy, I apologise as well if you thought I wa calling you a liar. I was only one of a number of people who queried the legitimacy of the photos, I guess I just made the mistake of being the stereotypical, convict-blooded dumb Aussie who queried them! I also happen to be an Aussie who's recently moved an old car that had sat on pavers just like those for less than 12 months, and the ground directly under the car was a totally different colour to that just beside it, caused by a both lack of direct sunlight and build up of leaves etc that had occurred during the relatively short time the car had sat there. There were also very clear marks on the ground all around the tyres, including in front of and behind them and not just directly under them, where the rubber had deteriorated in the sun and weather, and had marked the pavers accordingly. As I also said, it's great thet the car's been found, and I look forward to its continuing saga. Cheers, Glen.
Shit, extra bubbles!!!!!!! I have bubbles, the plaster, fiberglass, paint. The Druid Princess is just about out of the Interior shop, when can I get started on the restoration man! FRITZ
RGB is taught in 5th grade art classes. Try it. VERY cool find. Not my favorite of Roths cars, but a great find none the less. I can't wait to see it at a show.

Great story... As believable as if Roth was telling the story himself. I met George Schreiber at the March Meet and the CHRR last year... Ya wanna hear some great stories? If ya get the chance, talk to this guy. Who cares how true they are. George told me a story about Roth, himself and Yellow Fang that was unbelievable, yet I'm sure held some truth to it. Roth IS a legend and I for one love to read, or even better, get to actually listen to a story from someone who was close to him. March Meet '06 CHRR '06 -Troy
George just turned 70 last week... He's an amazing person.. and has been a good friend throughout the years... We did a Model Building contest a few years back.... Check out the following pages that can be found at http://www.ratfink.org/yellow_fang As you surf the web area you will find A story that George shared that I think you will enjoy. Also just recently I had a long conversation with George and wrote a little tid bit about him that was featured in this last last month in the Rat Fink Party Program.. You might want to check it out. http://www.ratfink.org/rfparty2k7/ironic.htm The attached Photo is of George and I at the March meet in 2003. I was driving our Club car... I got 8 good runs in during the weekend my best time was 11.121 and at 124.15 mph. We hung out all weekend.... Man was it a gasser!
Jeez, you'd think I said there was no Santa Claus or something. Yeah, I know how RBG works; I just doubt that Roth bothered to actually make it work in this application. Do you think all those telephones in 60's customs worked, too? It seems much more likely he just slapped some colored bulbs in there and told a good story. If anybody ever saw it turned on and working back in the day, I will happily eat my words.
I bet the bubble top is being used in the stage act for the strippers. You know, the girl rolling around a sudsy clear plexiglass act.
I'd really like to know how to do this as I have a couple of cars I want to get out of Mexico that I have found. I know how to deal with the Americans but the Mexicans I haven't figured that one out yet. Oh, and since it seems to have been found near Soccoro TX I am betting the car was here in Juarez, on the east side of town. If it had been on the west side I would have found it! (actually that's somewhere in the center of town judging by the buildings) This is a photo of the bridge I cross everyday to go to work http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd151/Roth_Orbitron/ORBITRON041.jpg PS: "Bote de Micos"
OK. Here's the latest. A freelance photographer has come to photograph it for Hot Rod magazine. It should be out for the January issue. It will also be photographed for Garage magazine sometime this week.
the news has hit the magazines this month. a couple of mags have quick blurbs on it, the oddest one, was Popular Hot Rodding mag! a pro touring mag running an article on roths orbitron. HAMB's own LaGrasta was quoted in the article.
The freelancer that came to shoot it for Garage magazine just left today. We even took him back to Juarez, Mexico to show him where it was found. We even showed him the wrecker/van that brought it over. He thought it was all just too cool! No ,those aren't Corvette spinners. They are probably old cal-customs or something like that. They come apart in 3 pieces and are held together with set screws.
