Yep, Might be against civics or trucks today, but they will come after us too when they get done with them, these people look at cars as nothing more than a washing machine, an appliance. If they had their way the only customizing we should be doing is whatever we can get from that one isle in shucks I realize that this probably wont pass, but just to see a deal like this get seriously brought up is rediculious this retard should be lynched And tires... ive never owned a car with stock size tires
No car is irrelevant. There was legislation in California a few years ago that aimed at curtailing the use of "fart cans" on civics and the like, was to do away with all modified exhaust. No headers, after-market mufflers etc. Through SEMA, a compromise was reached and a modified exhaust noise level law was enacted that restricts exhaust noise to a level both the car guy can appreciate and the law handle. It also allowed a system for challenge and satisfaction. It is a slippery slope if legislators think no one cares. Tree huggers do not get hot rods, see them as wasteful, the safety Nazis seem them as dangerous and some see them as a source of trouble with young drivers. And note, I refer to hot rods as those vehilce smodified from original to enhance performance. A Duece, a 57 Chevy even a Honda Civic can be someone's hot rod. While it is true a lot of SEMA's actions are for the benefit of after-market manufacturers, not necessarily for the hot rodder specifically, we need those manufactureres to keep making and designing products for ALL our vehicles.
Well put Thebigdaddyo, The They aren't coming after me so why should I be concerned thinking won't work in dealing with people who attempt to enact such legislation. If we don't defeat these things from the start, we will have an uphill battle getting them changed afterwards. I agree 100% with the comment that these people see a car/truck as an appliance rather than a vehicle that is part of their life. Most of them buy the car that consumers report gave the best rating and buy a color that doesn't show the dirt. They keep it until the warranty runs out either by time or mileage and have most likely never installed a set of new tires on any car they own because they don't keep one that long. They hear the kid in the Civic blow past their condo with the fart pipe blasting as he goes through the gears at redline and see the 4X4 trucks with tires that are as tall as their Prius. The only accessory they have ever bought for a car is the bicycle rack that they haul their custom made bicycles to the areas that they want to ride in with.
Well, what you deem as irrelevant is by no means so. The laws have extending effects to our hobby. During the years I was a director at SEMA, I spent a large majority of my time on issues regarding legislation. The tire issue that started this thread could mean no more Coker white walls in Oregon, or cheater slicks or bias plys any aftermarket tires in general. What is one to put on a Duece then? Those environmental-minded people, with good intentions, would like to have every vehicle with 2009 emission equipment on them. If they have the ear of a legislator, then things roll. Remember the car crusher program? How many nice vehicles died before SEMA got Cali govs to agree to have cars deemed classic or collectable set aside from the crushers and parted out instead? Legislation can have effect on all cars and in all states. Unfortunately sometimes, as California goes, other states follow. All I suggest is to utilize the SEMA action Network and contact your legislators regarding these issues. If only one voice is heard, only one will be listened to.
I'm trying my best to separate cars (of any kind) from politics (of everykind). But it cannot be done. Every state has had some kind of absurd law proposed that restricts/inhibits the individual from doing anything to their personal property, in this case a 'motorized' vehicle. Tire/wheel sizes, bumper heights, lighting, and the list goes on. Politicians never get tired of playing God and tell us lowely taxpayers how we will behave and now they want us driving a damned electric car. But they forget where electricity comes from, but they do listen to the enviro-nazi groups that wants to remove hydro power facilities, but they don't want to consider new nukes.... If the socialist-liberals are not soon contained we will be a third world country in short order and our grandkids will be speaking Russian. Save all of trees that you want since we can't cut them for lumber or fuel. We will all end up frezing to death in the dark but by the grace of God the air will be clean, Oh, I forgot about the Chinese and Indians still stinkings things up. my .03
I guess i'm pretty much the opposite of a tree hugger, and i feel i'm being oppressed by these tree huggers i honestly support global warming, if we get so-cal weather up here and so cal becomes a desert i Honestly approve, if i could produce more emisions for free i would. Really most animals should go extinct, they just take up space that beef cattle could be raised, and jump out infront of cars after this winter fuck the snow But i guess this is just my opinion and getting quite OT
