Saw this & thought it was pretty cool with a neat story. Can only imagine what it will sell for.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42606&item=2473000872&rd=1
[ QUOTE ] Cool little piece of history [/ QUOTE ] ...if it is the real thing.Sorry to be a disbeliever but I have my doubts as to it's authenticity. For one thing it looks like it was signed with a Sharpie and if this was supposed to be done in 64 or thereabouts,I don't think they existed then.If there is any real provenance with the item other than someone's say so,then good luck on the auction. And if not, then I have some really nice BRIDGE property down around New York City that I'm getting rid of CHEAP........
I'm dubious about VonD having neat little logo thingies for sale in '64. He was just a locally notorious painter/whacko/drunk then. This looks like the kind of thing Rorh got into years later than this, and Moon in recent times. Von Dutch's times of greatest marketing potential unfortunately didn't coincide with his lifetime...
Lots of holes! If it was REALLY in a fire it would have melted off the chain or ring and cut through the end- and real nice that it layed flat on the floor for the fire. Also I think those key chains first popped up in the late eighties or early nineties. Finally- never heard mention of this car before- anyone else? Sounds like one mighty big fable.
The seller has other "vintage" cast aluminum pieces for sale also. Thay all have wonderful stories. Neal
My********* alarm went off - notice that all of his auctions are private, so that you can't see what he's been selling. The ticket that he shows for the drags that he claims the car was in is linked from another website. Mutt
Good authenticated provenance has suddenly become valuable in the hot rod world. This is how to manufacture it... I'd better get to work writing up a good history for my roadster. Do they still sell black&white film? In any case, that thing is nowhere near as valuable as the original Von Dutch lunchbox...
Something ain't right with the item and his story. I think someone is going to pay alot for a piece of junk with questionable history. Let the buyer beware.......
Wouldn't a Von Dutch piece have had more of a engraved/machined/tooled appearance? This looks badly CARVED in soft metal, then distorted with a blunt tool..... Strange.......
Well youll have to excuse me for being a little skeptical, but this keychain looked a little bit familiar to me. So I went and pulled out one of the keychains I have been making for about ten years (well for sure at least 20 years after 1964) and selling for $5. Ill let you draw your own conclusions. Dennis
HOLY CROW!!!!! Isn't that sumthin, glad I decided not to bid! I lose more faith in ebay every damn day. Thanx for the post, thats too damn funny. Greg
You really should send in those pics along with the item number to E-Bay. And maybe to your local FBI office.
