Hello everyone, I was just curious to see if someone could help me out with some original 1932 Ford steering column measurements. Has to be car/light duty pickup. Is it the same as a BB? Here is what I have so far: * '32 BB (Big H/D truck) Column for reference/parts (Top column in pic) * '32 Car/Light duty pickup Box * '36 Car/Light duty pickup Column Thanks in advance, Joe
Before everyone gets out their tape measure where do you want the measurements taken? Charlie Stephens
externally...yes, internally...no. The shaft and therefore the worm gear are different. I needed a shaft for my deuce box. I bought a 32 box shaft and mast at Hershey several years ago only to find out that the shaft is larger. From memory 7/8" not 3/4" You can't tell from external measurements.
Your absolutely correct Tommy! My '32 BB column has a larger diameter than my '36 pickup column. Had no idea! Also, my '32 BB Column tube is approx. 36 3/8" in length..Is the car/pickup tube the same length?
The BB truck tube is thicker wall also. The 32 passenger steering shaft is 40-7/8" total length. You can press the 36 worm off, shorten and re-machine the lower end and press on a 32-34 worm. Neal
How do you ID a 32 ford steering box? The sector housing as I understand is clocked slightly different to a 33/34. I have one that appears, based on my understanding, to be a 32 steering gear. I have not disassembled the box in an attempt to find out based on ratio stamped on the gears. Thanks in advance Jack
The mounting flanges are oriented opposite on 32 vs 33-34. In the frame, 32 has 1 hole up, 2 down. 33-34 has 2 holes up, 1 down.
