Well...my hot rod is done. I took a stock 28 that had a fresh rebuilt banger and transmission and swapped it out for a 49 flat head.

Now I have this banger with only 3,500 miles on the rebuild. How much (ballpark) are these worth? It's an incredible running engine but I have no use for it.

I really don't know for sure, but...

I'd ask $1000, and be happy to get $500.

I say that because I sold my running banger (unknown mileage, but ran good), working trans, 5 good wheels and tires, and rear axle / drive shaft for $1000 to one purchaser.

Maybe I got lucky, maybe he did - I don't really care. I wanted it out of my garage.

Do you have any details/proof of what and when was done to the motor.
Any motor I look at....I base it on those conditions. If the owner doesn't know and doesn't want to pull it apart for inspection....I walk away.
A provable, nicely built A motor can get $1500. or so around here.

Just reporting on what I found when I parted out the parts I didnt need on the coupe...got something of a surprise when selling the fenders and running gear.

Sold the running engine/trans for $2,200 although I had to put them on a pallet ready for shipping. A club in MD spotted some parts I had listed on eBay and they couldn't get enough of them. They may not be in major demand a**** a larger percentage of rodders but a**** the original clubs they are highly valued. Front fenders? Like $1,400 for the pair from memory.

In case you think I have been smoking something, check this one out...you have to scroll down. $2.5k JUST for the engine...

I'd check your local Craigslist and see what they're going for locally. In my area, I usually see runners going for about $300 on up to about $1500. I've seen them list higher but I don't think they tend to sell for that since there are a lot of them to be had around here.

Do a compression and leak down test and record the results. Set it up on a stand that you can safely run it on for a prospective buyer. All that in place I'd start at $1,800 and any less would be up to you. How complete it is makes a difference too. Long block, no carb manifolds, dist, less. Ready to run, more. And hook up the muffler so it can be heard right, not hidden by a loud exhaust. Just my .02...
