Howza Bruthas- As many of you know, I am a die hard Edsel enthusiast, and have been slowly chasing down rare items of Edsel memoribilia as well. I have scored an original set of executive's cufflinks/tie bar and money clip, a very scarce This is the Edsel booklet that was handed out to Ford executives, design staff and a few members of the press; #59 out of the 100 produced, a NOS 1958 Edsel exhaust deflectors still in the box and just recently this amazing survivor! I found this piece that was listed on an auction site and it seemed too good to be true. But the more I studied the photos, it became apparent that this was indeed, the real deal, a dealership survivor piece for the introduction of 1958 Edsel. These were ordered by each dealer and could be hung in the showroom, car lot, or service garage. The streamer itself was a vinyl material and the pennants were vinyl coated drill cloth. The anticipation of the car turned sour as the newly introduced Edsel failed to draw the crowds that FoMoCo and dealerships had expected and optimism turned to panic. In books I have read about the Edsel, there are quotes from former Edsel employees who remember the exodus of anything related to the car; signage, cans, etc, any item that used as a marketing tool was dumpster bound. Which makes the fact that this piece survived more remarkable. So check it out!
Awesome score!! My dad was always looking for anything that was related to the Shoebox Fords and had amassed quite a collection of off the wall dealer items and corporate stuff throughout the years. It’s always nice when you can get these and it’s documenting a lot of lost history. I bet you do have some really cool things for the Edsel and please post more pictures
I bet you do have some really cool things for the Edsel and please post more pictures [/QUOTE] I do! I will post some of the stuff on this page soon! And that is cool to hear what your Pop scored over the years.
Most of dads collection was put into the attic so I could free up another bedroom for my granddaughter to stay in when she comes over and hangs with PawPaw (yeah she has me wrapped) but it’s neatly put away where it’s easy to get to and hopefully soon be organized a little better. I find it’s like an addiction and there are always things that you have never seen and can’t do without But it’s like my wife says at least she knows where and what I spend my money on and she has no problem with that. It’s just all of the surprise cars that follow me home that she wonders where I’m going to put them and when will I have time to play with them Maybe I’ll get a chance after Christmas and start a thread on the things I have tucked away
