I posted an ad in the wanted section looking for a specific column drop for my roadster. Then it occurred to me as I'm calling every original parts place around, that I'm really not sure what it's from. I've heard it's from a '36 or '37 COE. It's supposed to be the trick to lowering the column, and it still has the angled mounting surface that matches a '32 dash.

Can anyone confirm what it is? Bruce Lancaster?

Thanks for the help. Here are some photos of one that used to be on the auction site:

I'm running a '39 box and a stock '32 dash. I don't know how long that drop is, I just know that's the one I need.

John, thanks for the info. That drop I'm looking for (or one similar) is longer than a '32 so the wheel can sit closer in your lap.

That looks exactly like the 39 that I took out of my 39.

39 would be my guess. :)

I try . Im not a 32 guru though ,All you need now is have someone measure a 32 roadster and a 32 truck that has the stock column mount ........29 ,34 ,36 cars are way different ,

39 All Ford - that looks like the drop...could you measure from the mounting surface to the center of the tube?

Try the early ford parts website. I am pretty sure it is out of a 32 truck.

It is not a 32 drop. The 32 drop has a hole on the left side. It is there for the choke cable on the 4 cyl models (most trucks). The hole is capped on the V8 models.

I believe you are on the right track about the cab over thing but I can't confirm that.

    Late`30 Ford COE......i have one.

A VERY good alternative is a 5" inch drop made by Limeworks speed shop.
    Angle etc. matches.

All I can say is not passenger, longer than any of those. COE sounds reasonable.
How many terminals on switch, 2 or 3? That would give a cutoff between early and late.

Its 1940 COE. I have one on my 36. It is not angled, so it will take some work to get it to line up with the dash.

I think the drops being refered to as a COE drops are actually "big truck" drops. The last one I posted came from a '41 COE. As you can see, it is offset (to clear the dog house) and is on a much more extreme angle to allow the column to drop straight into the floor.

The big truck drops have a better angle that allows the column to point towards a more conventional engine compartment & front end as would be found in a big truck. They do have more of a drop than a little truck (1/2 ton) or car though.

Find yourself a big truck drop & go from there. A strategically placed pie cut or two will allow the column to go where you want it and will allow it to mount nicely to the dash.

I cut this late '30's 1/2 ton truck drop to work in my '32.
