There was a little speed shop right off the road that leads into the Lincoln Tunnel from the NJ Turnpike..tucked into one of those little neighborhood store fronts on the right side where the road runs parallel . I used to go there for parts for my T-bucket back in the early 70's but I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it............anybody??

Cooper Auto supply is alive and well on East Main St. in Bridgeport now owned by the OT's son Melvin Cooper.
A second location is on the Post Rd. in Westport owned by #1 son Sandy Cooper.:)
The shop refered to in the quoted post was Pressley auto parts neat speed shop, but poorly run and now gone.

Victory Speed shop on the Post Rd. in Milford CT, it was an old Debs Shop originally. For a short time there was a RidgeRunner Shop in Devon also near the MacDonalds.

My favorite was California Speed and Sport in New Brunswick,NJ. Usually,I dealt with Joe Barzda. Standard greeting went like: "Hey Joe,whatz new?" He'd answer "There's nuthin' new...it's just the same ol' stuff happnin' to different people..."
When they finally started cleaning out the dead inventory,Joe and I would walk around the warehouse dragging the most rusted,beat-up 3-wheeled shopping cart you've ever seen. I'd fill it up and Joe would eye it up and hit me with a (very cheap) price. I cleaned out all their Cal Custom knobs ;) and No,they're not for sale. I give them away to friends as desk art. Geez,I miss that place...

RICCI32, per your ealier post, was that Ulster Automotive in Kingston, NY? Joey Kornelski (spelling?)? I grew up in Rhinebeck and used to go there a lot in the early 60s. Joey was paralyzed, in a wheelchair, from a auto accident when he was in school. Great guy.

  29. If it is the coupe I'm thinking of I bought it from a guy named murph that worked at the speed warehouse in east hartford. PERFORMANCE CENTERSOF AMERICA WAREHOUSE. The coupe was tangerine candy with flames and had a 350 chevy with a lot of goodies.

  30. Back in the early 60's I worked at Kulak(sp) Motor Clinic in Avon, Ct. Harry (Kukak) originally had a speed shop in West Hartford, & in 62/63 moved to a new building in Avon. Had +/- 5 lifts in the back & a chassis dyno. You could rent a lift & work on your own car. In the front of the building was a speed shop with all the neat parts of that era! The building was on the north side of 202 across from Plaza 44 Shopping Center.
We also ran a 1963 Pontiac Tempest drag car, Papoose One, out of the shop @ Colchester dragstrip. The car originally was owned by Arlin Vanke. It was changed to a T10 trans & ran in AFX against the Tasca Thunderbolts of the day!

Lots of great times as a teenager
