Ok guys, Iam sorry but it is Me & these Bumper guards again. Thanx to Kuztomklaus, We have IDd these to a 41 Chrysler. Now wether its a Chrysler coupe, sedan or a 41 Barrelback Woody, I Dont know. I cant seem to find any numbers. Does that mean they are reproductions? If someone can tell by looking, please let me know. Thanx
They look like the might be rechromed originals, but it's hard to tell from the pics. Are there any hammer marks inside? the hammer marks would be a narrow line, about 1/16" wide by 3/4" long, that's what they use to fix bumpers. Also a close up view of the recesses in the middle (the "stripes" around the outside) could show pits that might not have been fully removed when they were buffed before plating. I'd be shocked to find they're reproductions, for a car like that. Not much of a market for them, and it's expensive to make the tooling.
Is anyone offering some similar on ebay....might give an idea what someone else "thinks" they might be worth.
Now all you have to do is find someone with '41 Chrysler bumpers! Pretty specialized market, and grinding them down to fit something else will screw up the chrome, although '41 Ford or Lincoln have pretty similar mounting contours . . . .
Really, well would you have any suggestions on how a greenhorn like myself might go about doing that??
I just did a search and found the Chrysler Imperial Club, appears to cover a wide range of years and has a free classified section; that's where I would start. http://www.imperialclub.com/index.htm
Looks like replated (poorly done). Most of the features have been ground off in the plating process. A complete set would be 5 guards (3 front/ 2 rear)
