I'm redoing my Avatar Roadster with a 500 Cad/TKO 600, when remounting my Vega box I turned it by hand and the bearings feel quite "gritty". I would rather rebuild this one rather than buy one of the "new" off shore repos. Does anyone have sources for rebuild kits or parts, mainly seals and bearings? The box is pretty tight with almost zero play, I was really surprised how rough the bearings felt, but, the grease looks pretty nasty. I could find 525 kits but nothing for the Vega manual box. Thanks in advance for any help.

The worm shafts are real soft. It is very hard to remove the pitman arm without the bearings making depressions in the race surfaces. I put the shafts in a lathe and dress them up. A rebuild kit will not help without fixing the shaft.

If you only need seals and bearings, try a bearing supplier. They can probably match up your old bearings and seals. Got a seal for a 46 Ford box that way.
