Projects ORIGINAL Vin # TAG and Title Question

Is it ok to sell an original Vin.# metal tag and transferable title from one vehicle to another vehicle
of the same year, make and model ? Example: 1956 Ford F100 pick up.

I believe it’s illegal in every state…..but I’ll also bet they’re at least thousands of early Fords along with 55-57 Chevrolets and 67-69 Camaros with that done!
Just think of how many 55-57 Chevrolets 4 doors are now 2 doors “without” a vin tag change. You better know what you’re buying today!

 

It's only OK if you are trying to do something illegal. After you get the tag and title, are you going to re-stamp all the numbers to match the new tag and title numbers?

 

Well, you wouldn't want to tell the DMV that you did it, but just remember that in the normal course of building these old hot rods, we buy new frames for old cars, and switch bodies from one original frame to another original frame. The frames may have different serial numbers from the factory. It gets to be a real sticky issue if someone tries to explain every possible exception that we do. If you have an original frame and you mount a Brookville body on it.........ARE you committing a crime? Then later the frame is replaced with a new reproduction because the old one cracked.....ARE you now a criminal.

I think as long as you use the same logic you use when your wife asks......."Does this dress make me look fat?", ..........you should be OK.

 

I am not going to tell you to do it, but I will also say that the drive train is supposed to match the serial number.

I am sure that every V8 manual 55-57 Chevy, V8 Mustang and Camaro serial numbers are V8s
