COE Original wheel colors?

On the 1938-1947 Ford COEs, what would the original wheel color be?

I have seen an original black coe and the rims where black.
Ive also seen an original grey coe and the rims were grey.
Seen a repainted red coe and the rims were repainted red too.

Does anyone know if the rims were body colored originally?
