My Minolta died so I need a cheap point and shoot camera for posting pictures on the HAMB. I have no camera phone and won't be getting one. I don't need any fancy features to work up to. I just need to point it at that cool old part and take a reasonable picture to share with you guys. I learned how to use this camera about 5 years ago so I'm sure everything that I do now is p***e. Did I mention cheap?? I'd do Ebay for an older camera but I have no clue what to look for. Point and shoot, not too fancy and cheap. Sounds like a hotrod camera to me. I can't be the only old fart that needs a cheap hotrod camera.
I use a Nkon Coolpix L22 for the photos I post here on the Hamb. You can pick up some deals on them once in a while if you hunt. The only issue I have with mine is that the battery door latch is bad and I made a lexan piece for the bottom of the camera that is held on by a screw in the tripod mount hole. Looks tacky but works good. Propwash has a good suggestion below in post 3. Two things I wanted when I went camera looking were that it used an SD card and it used AA batteries. That way you can buy more memory or batteries just about anywhere and because we have one camera with a rechargeable battery it is a pain to run out of power and have to go recharge the camera battery right in the middle of something rather then pulling a pair of batteries out of your pocket, putting them in and going again.
head to Best Buy and tell 'em what you want....you can get a decent digital camera for under $150 - just make sure you have OPTICAL ZOOM, not just digital. Stick a 4gb memory card in it...and you'll be buried in images
I have an old Kodak C340 which I'd love to replace.. It's only a 5mp camera that takes ok shots.. But I'm gonna want something better down the line...
When my $100 Nicon took a dump I went to Wallyworld and bought a $70 Sanyo. 12.1 Mega Pixcies. Takes as good a picture as the Nicon. Took the one below at LARS last year.
MP doesn't mean ****. That's a sales ploy. You can get a great camera for $100. Nikon Coolpix, or....ask at BestBuy, etc.....
What Doug said.......go to Best Buy and look at the different models......there are many good cameras for around $100-150 that will serve you well, Tommy.......get one that's at least 8 Megapixels.....you don't need the big 12 and 14 MP models..... I have a small SONY pocket job that I take when I want to travel light....it does video as well as sharp pics....... Think about getting an extra storage card....if you want to shoot videos I'd suggest 8 GB cards at a minimum.........also, get an extra battery.....keep one charged and at the ready because you *will* have a dead battery at some time and a spare will save you..... Look at Amazon online too....... There is also a very good review site if you want to see what the experts think of any camera you are considering......it's here: www.dpreview.com Good info there... Good luck...... CB
That's why I'm asking here. I don't trust salesmen. Are the batteries an issue to avoid? I'm used to the rechargeable AAs. Are they still OK?
Mazooma's right of course. But I hate Best Buy. Ever try to return something there that you didn't like?? Go to Costco with you wife and pick one out. Slip it in with the rest of the order. She'll never know the difference. All of them are good these days. Don't get a Sony unless you like purple fringe on the edge of your subjects. I tend to buy cameras from camera companies and video machines from video machine companies. This one's for sale.....
With the speed technology has changed in the camera world there should be a lot of very useable cameras sitting in people's drawers. Ask around. Owner's manuals are available as no cost downloads from most camera manufacturers. There are also sites that sell reprints of owner's manuals. The ones you pay for are printed two sides, bound and usually a format smaller than the 8 1/2 by 11 that most people print at home. I would offer one of my old cameras but I have a 5 year old daughter that is first in line for my hand-me-downs. Charlie Stephens
X3 on the Nikon Coolpix L22. I got mine either at Wallyworld or Radio Shack for under $80. Fits in my shirt pocket and takes great pictures. Takes a SD card and two AA's. 12.0 mp's and a 3.6x zoom.
A good camera makes no differance if you don't know how to take a good pic..20 feet of gr***, concrete in the foreground, or the ride 60 feet away from you. The whole car doesn't need to be in every pic I have a HP and like most it has alot of artsy features to make pics black and white as well as other vintage looking treatments. Mine was around $300.00 back when but the prices have come down. Spend a hundred or more and you will have a decent one....pawn shops
============================================= just for ****s and giggles....how about my 1917 Eastman Kodak Cirkut... 10"X36" film.... in all seriousness.....anything with a MP of 5-8 is just fine. The batteries are mostly soaked up by the little strobe unit. Rechargeables are fine for that. The recycle time my be a few seconds slower than regular batts, but no big deal. An extra photo card is a good idea, but, honestly any fair sized card will hold 300-500 photos. A small pocket camera with a zoom should be $100, +, -....... I'm a Nikon guy, so I'd get a Coolpix....but that just cause I'm partial
See you just had to muddy the water, didn't you? I was thinking of borrowing someones video camera for the proverbial first engine fire up that is coming up. I don't want to pay extra for a one time video. The new cameras take special batteries and chargers?
Tommy, ain't you got kids? I've never bought a camera. My kids (all adults now) have always replaced whatever they had with the latest whiz bang current technolgy. The old stuff sits in a drawer. I ask about a replacement and like magic I have my pick of outdated technology that they can show me how to use. Frank
It helps alot if you hold the camera nice an' steady for a couple of seconds before and after you snap the photo... That way, the pics come out crystal clear... At least that's what I do... And it helps!! Oh, and keep the lense clean!!!
Tommy, bought a great garage camera on E-Bay a while back. It's a Canon sureshot. It takes 2 AA batteries and I paid $21.60 including shipping for it. Hell, it takes better pictures than the newer high dollar job I keep in the drawer.
I use a Casio from Kmart, Around 80.00 8.1 MP uses a 4 GB memory card. Fits in shirt pocket. Battery last for weeks. Real good camera. Took this with it.
I've been using an Olympus Stylus 720 SW for about five years, 7.1 MP, it has an aluminum case, drop resistant for five feet(done it several times!)water resistant 10 feet(haven't tried that yet). I saw several on Ebay today, accesories are still available, spare batteries are less than $10. I really like mine.
timely post, I'm lookin to buy a new digital camera soon,...it would be neat to see pics of these suggested cameras, but mite be difficult taking pics of your own camera,...HA!
Nikon Coolpix is a damm fine camera. I currently am using a 4 year old Panasonic Lumix TZ3, its a great point n shoot, has a Leica lens & takes some VERY good pictures...in fact, if you look for my posts in the Friday Art Shows, the majority of them were taken with said camera. The TZ series is up to #7 now I think, but they are over 10mp & have 15x (maybe more) optical zoom, which is the important part...Costco usually have them on sale as well. LINK TO REVIEWS
Amigo, I carry a cheap pentax I picked up at walmart. runs on regular batteries ( don't have to find a socket to charge and can get batteries anywhere). the best par is since it was cheap I won't get all honked off if it gets pinched like my iPod and expensive camera did.
I use this one. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=56884&CatId=3624
