I always wanted to live at an abandoned airport. Youd have plenty of hangers and a drag strip right in your yard. Too bad they all become subdivisions.

Very cool site. I am a private pilot and some of the sites listed I have seen in my area. Some very nice pics.

I don't know if its the same facility, but there were drags at the naval air base in RI during the 50's. Used to go there, did some teching (stockers). The racing strip was so long that you could run out of gas before getting to the end.

You had to set up everything the day of the drags and take it down at the end of the day because the base was active Mon to Fri.

It's funny you should mention that ... I was just talking to my Grampy last week. He informed me that there is an old air field a couple miles north of him where they brought WWII pilots up to to practice bombing runs. Says it's been abandoned for years ... I wonder if I can talk him into taking me up there...

Wow....2 were located within 2 miles of my house! Another 2-3 within 10-15 miles. They failed to list one though that I and a friend found a few years ago on a long,aimless,late-night drive. In the Lemont/Lockport,IL area.
