hahaha shit i was wondering if anyone was gonna bring up Homeboy hahaha...

i raced, flatland, and ended up spending most of my time dirt jumping. still try and ride a little but 35 and riding since 9 shows it's pains real quick.

got a '83-84 Kuwahara Nova but i'm probably about to move it as a buddy emailed me yesterday and has to move some stuff to pay for a divorce. he offered me his basiclly NOS Hutch Pro Star for a good price. bike hung in the rafters of a bike shop for 20 years before he got it and it's only hung in his garage since. he's never ridden it and the bike shop didn't remeber anyone ever riding it either. i've been after one for a while. don't have the money really or the room so i figure selling the Kuwahara will help foot part of the buy and give me room.

so if anyone is interested in a Kuwahara i'd make them a pretty good deal...ken....

OOOh my.. that brings back a lot of memories...
I raced bmx from 1982 to 1986 in Germany. I had a redline bike and I hated and loved my shimano dx pedals if you know what I mean...There was only one store in town where we could get the bmx plus mag !
After racing for GT and Mongoose I did a lot of freestylin´with my haro master bike for about 10 years.
I met Eddie Fiola (anyone remember him ?) at a freestyle show in munich. It was a blast !
I´m 36 now and still have a freestyle bike. Sometimes I just ride around for fun- One young(15 year old) bmx guy asked me once : "Sir ,are you a bmx veteran ?"-"Can you show me some oldstyle tricks?"....:D

Parents could never afford to get me a "nice" BMX bike (4 of us kids).....parents always bought Huffys or even cheaper bikes.....
But a little later, I got into freestyle and my sister of all us kids got to pick out her own bike for her B-day.....she picked out a top-o-the-line Kuwahara Exhibitionist....I rode it most of the time....wasn't ever really that good, but was fun bombin' around town.......
I tried building my own freestyle bike using a Profile "Prostyler" frame and my Huffy parts......but ya just can freestyle with a COASTER brake!!! hahahaha

man i just saw this thread . i started with stripped down stingrays . the i got a stroker . with the square tubing with moto mags . heavy as hell but tuff . on eof the only frames i never broke . later had a race inc . and yes it broke at the seat post clamp . then a redline proline untill it got stolen . then i got a car and never rode again . UNTIL YESTERDAY ! i got a gt mach 1 20'' from the neighbor kid for 20 bukcs . all i had to do was put a tube in . i am stoked rode all night last night and wrecked out twice . i was loving every painful , bloody second of it . my wife totally think i am nuts too . put the bike in my truck this morning and took it to my shop where i rode around at lunch . man at 40 it sure is harder tto do than when i was 16 . i am in complete awe od what these guys are pulling off now days . i thought i was the man when i was able to table top really well . the air and the backflips these guys are doing INSANE . some of my buddies and i are going to start riding on a regular basis . man this is a great thread and a total flashback . i wondered how many dudes are on here that were bmx'rs . ryan i know this is ot plus please keep this thread open . i truly think it was anatural transition from building bikes to cars ..... GREAT THREAD !

    Hi,

i ride BMX since im 15. Then i startet to work for Schwinn/GT Powerlite (BMX department) in europe. Then i moved to the states, and after two years back to germany. Now i work for a MTB company here in europe. A few months ago i build up a new BMX bike for me to start again. My bones and my back hurts but it is a good feeling to do this again. It is not just sport. I got many closer friends trough bmx.

  15. Yup, I can't remember my ABA number from 25 years ago. I still have a Mongoose motomag bike, Mosh Method from late nineties, Dyno VFR, Mongoose Californian and my old ass CYC Stormer. Hoping to eventually get another JMC to replace the one I gave my wife's cousin and a PK Ripper Looptail.
I am also a member at BMXMuseum.com. Lots of us old BMXers on there.

'Bout my older quote here talking about not wanting to fold up the Tuff II mags or frame. Am I smoking it or what? Anybody in the 160-180lb range still able to pull tricks and grab air on these things without wrecking them? Mountain bikes are getting boring and I don't really want to buy a new bmx. Dig my old school junk too much.

  23. i ride. rode trails for years but moving here meant no dirt. all parks for me, street creates pain. i gotta land in transitions to soften the blow. still ride an old standard motocross. right now im sitting in the bmx store i started with some housemates in march this year. i do a lot of sitting around waiting for customers so i spend my days reading up on cars. i met that monster kid (memeber of this board) riding. a few more riders around melbourne are into old cars. if it werent for bmx (starting to sound like a dig article here) i sure wouldnt of appreciated fabrication and therefore all things mechanical. thats my hudson in the second issue of rebelyell bmx mag. hudsons are awesome bike haulers- 3 kids in the front seat and 3 bikes in the back seat. easily! we lose a lot of riders to cars, so its good to see so many with fine taste in cars

Looks like a lot of bmxers (current and retired) on here. I rode everywhere as a kid and raced for about 5 years before I was old enough to drive. After that there was no more pedalling for me. Got a mate the same age as me (34) who I grew up with and raced against who has just got a new 24" GT so never to old too for some I guess.

  25. I rode throughout the 80's and worked at a bike/skate park up until about 3 years ago.

Hemi, I still have the Schwinn Predator with the rock n roll seat and all the YO! parts. Has the black chrome frame and pink accessories! HA! Memories, I almost killed myself on that thing!

My dad used to get my brothers and I bmx bikes by trading his 17, 18 year old auto shop students car parts for the bikes cause they were gettin into cars.

We used to go watch RAD and then go ride for hours trying to be like Cru Jones!!!

Stoner, I also still have my 84 Hutch Windstyler! That bike ruled!

I ride when I can, injuries have kept me off lately. While not real famous as a rider, I have been and still am pretty involved in the industry. I also run one of the larger bmx websites.
