You gotta have sound to really experience it... Listen to the pitch of these motors as they graduate through the decades. Higher and higher RPMs... Gorgeous.
That is a really cool commercial, imagine shutting down Times square and all the other locations, for this, there was some serious $$$ involved.
Awesome......................................................sounds like Flowers' flathead on steroids! HA HA HA
NICE...not a commercial, but did anyone see the youtube clip of the Bugatti going 250mph? said the tires only last like 15 miles or something like that? but its ok because the gas only lasts 13 miles at that speed!
I gotta get speakers for my computer here at work. Maybe I can sneak them on a P.O. with truck parts. My current favorite commercial is the NAPA commercial where Sammy Hagar asks Michael Waltrip of he can drive faster.
I love that shit.... I prefer the sound of the earlier cars (60's) over the newer cars....more raw, rough, evil, they GROWL......PRIMAL... You have a 'thing' for Ferrari's don't cha??? I like the wonderous sounds of Porsche's flat twelves 'ala 917's..... I need surround sound......
To me, Ferrari has always been kind of the pinnacle of the automotive world. Don't get me wrong, american performance is a huge part of... well, me... but nothing compares to the heart and soul of a Ferrari - new or old. A lot of it has to do with the town of Maranello. It's really just a village based around the Ferrari. Most folks that live there were brought up around the idea that cars were life and that the race track is a proving ground for not only the cars, but the people as well... not so much the drivers, but the craftsmen that put the cars together. The place shuts down on the weekend... If not for an f1 race, then for a city wide cart race for the kids... I'm idealistic for sure, but to me the Ferrari is what happens when a community decides to build the best cars in the world. When I watch that commercial, I think about all of the generations responsible for each one of those distinctive sounds... Pretty incredible.
The first course was Goodwood in England...the last was Monaco where they still race on the streets... I recommend the movie "Gran Prix" to anyone who wants to see the ultimate racing movie...John Frankenhemier directed...starred James Garner, Yves Montaund (sic?)...circa 1966. Faboulous...especially if you've seen the 'behind the scenes' show on TV...they used a Ford GT-40 for a camera car and tow car...they used an F-1 car as a close-up car...they pulled off the front wheels and made it into a trailer and pulled 'drivers' around in at 140 MPH during the racing scenes...
On Porsche... My pops is pretty big on em. I love a few of their cars, but recent research on a book I am contemplating (WW2 Germany and its influence on american hot rodding) has really put me down on their history... Ferdinand Porsche wasn't someone I could ever appreciate. Mercedes though... Now that's a company with some history that I can admire... And I love thier cars (new and old).
That's definetly the best commercial ever . Too bad Ferrari won't spend the cash to see it during the Super Bowl in HD and surround.
I couldn't imagine growing up in Maranello......the small, narrow, cobblestone streets....the silence of a small town, the beautiful scenery........and THEN, having Ferrari's TESTING through the streets......it's gotta be SURREAL....... I have similar feelings toward's Porsche......and it's history..... I need a vacation..... *Edit...just read your post, I'd be very interested to read some of the research about Ferdinand.....he was brilliant, yet maybe had some bad influences(lightly put), etc.....
Best sounding car? Back in the mid 80's I was going up Hollywood Way and this '69 Lambourghini Muira passes by me. I hook a quick left and catch up to it. I look over and it is Eddy Van Halen. He ends up parking it at the Burbank Airport and was sitting there just rev'in it a couple times. Man that thing sounded sooo sweet. Oh ya, Eddy was kool too (back then). KNUX!
Neat post I worked F&C in the 1984 Detroit F1 street race, you needed foam plugs inside headphone hearing protectors to deal with the sound . If people get a chance go to a vintage road race at BlackHawk farms in Rockford Il in June they hold a vintage race and in the preWW2 class there is a Studebaker Indy car something like 8 Litre four banger totaly the opsite sound of the F1 cars. Too bad the general public does not apreciate the sound of performance.
Muira.....ah yes...if I ever win the lottery, I'm buying an SV.....one of the most beautiful Italian designs.....
I would love to take a car like that through the paces in the burbs. The camera effect closeups and ground lever viewing is awesome. thanks
That was fantastic, I love the shots at the end when its going around the streets of monaco. I cant wait to get out of work and hear it on some speakers, then tonight Im going to watch the movie Grand Prix really loud haha
That was awesome, thanks for the link. Reminds me of Claude Lelouch's 'C'était un rendez-vous' (1976) featuring nothing more than a Ferrari 275 blasting through the streets of Paris at daybreak.
