    Best sounding cars ever...

Street Car. Ferrari F355. Sounds like shit at idle and low RPM, but once that little mill gets over 6000 RPM, there is nothing in the world with a license plate that can come close.

Close second... and I'm dead serious... The little flathead Tardel built me.

Race Car. 1964 to '67 Ferrari v12 for F1... Based on the 275 motor from the same era. It sounds amazing at every RPM and in every circumstance, but the earth moves when one of these jewels downshift to aid braking at about 7000 RPM.

Makes me miss the days of the Grand Prix running on the streets of Detroit. Man, those were some awesome partys. There's something to be said for watching beautifully soft, curvey shaped race cars being viewed at speed on hard asphalt against brick and motar buildings.

When they moved the race down the river a couple of miles onto Belle Isle, it just wasn't the same. Been gone for years now but I have heard rumblings of it coming back. Well see.

    Great video Ryan, thanks

  3. wow i loved this on , but anyone remember the coke viva las vegas ad ?? would love to have i link of tihs coke as again

  4. Thanks! that sounded awsome! I have never witnessed Formula cars in person. I am really stoked that they will be in Vegas during Viva. This comercial just helps build the hype for easter weekend! I cannot wait!

If you liked that commmercial, you should pick up DVD's of Speed's "Victory By Design" series. Fantastic footage and surround sound!

It's not a Ferrari commercial though; it's for Shell gasoline.

You can tell it's not a US commercial because the disclaimers warning you not to attempt it at home would have obliterated the whole thing.

Well, you know how it is with books. One guy writes something about someone he doesn´t know or worked with, and sometimes with a bad research work. And then everybody says it´s true-because it´s in the book. And especially regarding Ferdinand Porsche.
It´s the same here in Germany, some folks always try everything to make Ferdinand Porsche look bad. TV and Media also don´t do real research , they just tell what people want to hear and show what people want to see.

Of course he went to the dark side, but who wouldn´t when he was an engineer in the 30´s in Germany? The Gouvernment gave them a lot of opportunity and Mr. Porsche had the possibility then to build engines and cars...not only speaking of Auto Union V16 GP Race engines!!
Don´t get me wrong, I´m not a fan of what happened in or before WW2. Just wanted to say that the Gouvernment used Ferdinand P. as a tool and didn´t tell him everything...
Don´t forget Henry Ford´s attitude in those days....But I love his cars ,anyway !:)
Also Mercedes Benz was supported by Hitler with 300000 Reichsmarks in 1934 and all of the engineers and Drivers were all party members.(because they had to) and let´s not forget the MB aircraft engines and Military Industry etc...
    Still, I respect your opinion, you´re the boss...:D :D
Could you put a picture of the cover of that book? Do you have the ISBN Number?

I have two automotive passions - traditional rods, customs, & drag cars, and Porsches.

I admire what Mercedes is doing these days, I mean some of those cars flat out haul ass. But man, they break down constantly. I had my 911 for a little over a year, and it saw the redline and 100mph (or better) every single day I had it, and it never broke down. I have several friends with the new hot benz's and one of them recently made the dealer take back his 500 because of the lemon law. The fucking thing broke down so much he was driving their loaner car more than his own.

Unfortunately for me, I have bever made enough money to buy a Ferrari, so I have no real practical experience with them. But I have have to admit, nothing is sexier than the XXX soundtrack that rolls out of the pipes of a Ferrari. Nothing.

Actually, this is a book I am doing... Most of my research is coming from American hot rodders mouth's... Old guys... Although I am using a few historical WW2 publications.

Your comments are a good warning for me... I do need to look harder for the other side of the story.

Ever play the Ferrari F1 simulator? It's a sit down game-they have them here at Dave and Busters. I'm not that good but it's worth it to here the motor!

    We may be related.....hahaha!!!...j/k....
When I hit my mid-life crisis, I keep telling my wife I'm buying a 911.....either an SC or mid 80's Carrera (NO targas).....
I've heard and read that the Itailian sports cars, anyone could drive one fast, but it takes a skilled DRIVER to drive a 911 to it's fullest potential.....a design fault perhaps on the 911's part, but there's just something about 'em that's DANGEROUS...that draws me to 'em.......

    Man ! you´re doing the book ? that´s great !!!
    keep us updated.
Did you know that William Werner(Auto Union Production chief) was German/American ? He got inspired when he was visiting the states and saw the fords and chevies. You can see these inspirations on the Wanderer and Audi Cars from 1932 to 1939 !
If you need specific informations about the german car stuff from the 20´s and 30´s lemme know.

    THAT Commercial gives me chills...
and on the ot discussion, in Nazi Germany you could
    a) go along, b) run away, or c) die a painful, evil, horrible death.
The evil acts of the powerful do not reflect well for the people, so building race cars during race wars doesn't seem too bad. .02

Yeah, I lost a good friend and client a few years ago, coming back from the Montery Historics-Porsche was the featured marque that year. He was driving his brand new Carrera 2, thought he was Juan Fangio, and found one of the few spots on PCH with no guardrail and a 500 foot drop. I kept telling him when he took me for a ride in it-"Dude, it's a Porsche-slow in, fast out of the turns". Apparently, he didn't listen, and witnesses say they never saw him hit the brakes before the turn-no weight on the front wheels, hence he became a passenger. Really tragic.

I am lucky enough to have owned quite a lot of desirable cars and have to agree with you on the 355. Mine had a Tubi exhaust which around town was so loud it game me a headache but it was worth all the pain once you could wind the car out. Great sound but the build quality was akin to a Fiat kit car. Never loves and hated anything so much in my entire life.

My real love are Porsches. But not the type that you see driven by spoilt little rich girls and guys in red braces (showing my age there)

So far I have owned a 73 RS 964RS 993RSR 993 GT2(MONSTER with over 600HP) GT3 Mk1 GT3 Mk2 and a GT3RS. Ryan, have a look at some of the books that Paul Frere (sp) has written, there are always two sides to every story, I would be keen to see your take on things.

I always like the analogy used when refering to Ferrari and Porsche. A ferrari is like a mistress, tempramental and highly strung but you will forgive her anything. A Porsche is like a wife. Loyal dependable and will never let you down. Supposedly!

At Goodwood last year the Renault F1 team had a display where they had programme the engine management system to play tunes by reving the engine. Played god save the queen, happy birthday and others, amazing.

Although the purists are all about the rwd air cooled 993's, and hate everything that Stuttgardt has made since, personally I prefer the awd 996's & 997's.

They stick to the road like friggin' glue. A retard could drive one fast.

I can see the charm in an unbalanced rocket ship like a 911. I've driven a few and they are indeed fun. In fact, I think most people wouldn't argue if you said the 911 was the best sports car platform ever built.

Still, to me the 911 can't sit on the same track as any of the production v12 Ferraris when it comes to just utter driving experience. You know what they say about opinions though...

God, we must have hiked up our panties this morning fellas... We all sound like Robb Report readers...

    Ryan,

The new 599 is probably the most awsome road car ever, but for track use Porsche will beat a Ferrari any day of the week.

Get someone who knows how to drive on to take you out in a GT3RS on the track, or if you are ever in the UK let me know and I will set up an interesting day out for you.

As for my panties they are so high I have 3 adams apples...

Not to get too far afield, but what did you think of the last lap of Sebring this year?

    Cheers,

Hard not to agree with you on the 599... I have a good pal that ran Lemans with pretty good results in one. :)

That said and on the Ferrari Vs. Porsche thing, there's about 60 years of history in F1 that proves that Ferrari can more than hold it's own against Porsche on the race track...

    Hahahaha!!! I love it...
Your right Ryan, Ferrari's got Porsche beat in F-1....never been much a fan of F-1.......I'm more of an endurance race guy, esp. LeMans.....GT Prototype cars really get my blood boiling......

I'm just impressed with the little Porsches of the 50's-60's (550, 904), taking on the bigger, faster cars, and winning there classes, and even outright at times......durability......
I like 'em all though really....early Porsche's, Ferrari's, even Maserati's and Lambo's before the Countach........especially the racing specials...

Yeah, It's getting a little STUFFY in here.......

Ryan, Good point but the tables are turned somewhat if you look at the world of Sports car racing. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport I agree but making a car that last for 2 hours and one that can run for 24 takes a differant type of engineering skill.

Agreed. If my history is straight, Ferrari dominated LeMans in the 60's, Ford in the 70's, Porsche in the 80's/90's, and it's been all Audi ever since...
