How many people expected the Audi Diesels? ... and F1 has come a long ways in making the teams use engines longer and longer, they have use the same engine for more than one race and the same engine to qualify. I liked some of the older "all out" rules they had before but its still exciting. the 19k rev limit does suck though.
dude you made me spit my soda... the kid can drive... Hey hey... I've got this thing about Italian motorcycles that some people find kind of stuffy.. then again Ducati is more often than not referred to as the Ferrari of motorcycles. and the sound... man the sound...
Or go to the Nurburgring in germany, and get a ride on a ringtaxi. 150 mph in an M5, with a very expierianced driver. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get to do that. As far as sounds go, and I think most prop-heads will agree, nothing, but NOTHING sounds more sweet than a Merlin V-12 at full song. One of these years I'll go to Reno. Then I can die a happy man.
there's a race coming up here in downtown vegas... it's sooo sick! i believe it's the same weekend as viva
Haha...I think Ryan's original intent was the SOUNDS in the commercial, and it veared off into a Ferrari/Porsche discussion....kinda a nice tangent.....even for a hot rod board.....I enjoy this kinda stuff!!!!
Great thread. Paul Y nailed it when he said driving a Porsche isn't like anything else. It is a very distinctive driving experience (one I like a lot). And I'm sure driving a Ferrari is as well, but not having driven one I couldn't say. I hope one day I have enough money to remedy that situation. If I had a Ferrari I'd hardly ever use the stereo, because I'd be too busy getting a monster chubby just listening to the exhaust note. I've always dreamed of owning a really sick modded 911 turbo, but I have to admit, that new z06 vette is looking better all the time. And supposedly the skyline that Nissan (gasp) is bringing to the states will give ANYTHING MADE a run for it's money, for around 70 grand. But I doubt that either of those cars, regardless of who is fastest in the end, could even come close to creating a driving experience anywhere near to what Porsche or Ferrari provides.
Ooohhhh....turbo......*drooling*...... Ever see the Disney movie "Condorman"?......some BAD Porsches..... A good friend of mine ordered a 2007 'Vette, not a Z06, but still a 6 speed w/400hp.....should have it today as a matter of fact.....he always lets me drive his cars....we'll see how it is, hahahahahaha!!!!! (never driven a car worth more than @ $5000..he he)
I love the new vettes... Good story. We had a friend in Midland with his own private runway out in the country. He used it for his vintage war bird collection as well as just flexing the muscles on any number of his Ferraris... and he had a ton... Oil guy of course... At the time, my dad and I were campaigning a s/c car and needed to tune in the delay box to meet the 8.90 index. This guy was nice enough to let us use his runway for testing and tuning anytime we wanted... Anyway, we were out there one day testing when he pulled out a brand new Ferrari F40 that he had just taken delivery of. Being gear heads, we had to line them up... I let go of the transbrake as soon as I heard the Ferrari's clutch rip. As expected, the s/c car killed the ferrari off the line and I didn't so much as see him for an entire 1/4 mile... I started to run out of gear, so I got off the throttle... and as soon as I did, I could hear that v12 roaring from behind... I'm guessing he was hitting 160 or 170 when he passed, but I will never ever forget that sound. That thing was a race car for the street man... no a/c, no radio, no roll down windows... hell, the door release in the interior was this crazy looking wire you just pulled on.
Interesting angle to that commercial and the role sound plays in its success. The director is the same guy who did the Honda Choir. http://www.partizan.com/partizan/commercials/?antoine_bardou_jacquet
Ryan, thank you for this O/T post. You sure know how to capture the interest of us incurable, gearheads.Horse(or is that prancing horse)power is an incurable affliction,we all seem to have.Ferraris are the Italian hot rods in my mind. The way they became a car company, through competition, isn't that much different than a lot of speed equipment companies,in america.
Was'nt it Ferrari that built road going cars to sell for the sole purpose of funding his racing passion?? AWESOME!!!!
I've always loved the engine sounds from the movie "Grand Prix" and the sounds from the movie "LeMans". Nothing like those old 12 cyl. engines. Just like a Top Fuel motor. Music, sweet music!
Awesome commercial. Saw a vintage race, once. Got goosebumps when a can-am car with open headers piped out the back came flying by at top speed on a straightaway. Unbelievable!
Those of you that might have missed it might also enjoy this Pikes Peak video. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...t,foreign+driver,+but+way+cool+pikes+peak+vid
That Pikes Peak video is sick! I like how he drives with one hand and tries to block out the sun,FUCK!!!
The only Ferrari I've been a passenger in was one of these... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEWgxCGQhoU Except I didnt have a seat, I sat on the floor with a couple of toolboxes that were sliding around. And the driver was in a hurry... The howl of the V12 in a bare, stripped for racing 250SWB was beautifull. I'll never feel the same about something that comes out of a autoclave, as I do about a car that is hammered out of aluminum...
awesome video ryan, that definatly made my afternoon. such an amazing sound. and god how i would like a turn in those cars. On a side note, repoguy I used to work at a Porsche dealer up till recently, I took a 997 turbo out real quick, and it was unbelievable, I can't even come up with words to describe how the car drove or what it felt like, I would kill to own one.
first time ive seen it.thanks ryan,it brightened up this dreary weather were havin up here.loved the first car especially
Sorry, this post is off topic & should be closed...where's a mod when you need one? Sounds? Sorry - nothing on 4-wheels sounds like the machines of the sky...give me a big Merlin V12 anyday... ...but those Ferraris do sound pretty cool. I also like the old bevel Ducatis - very mechanical sounding.
Thanks lewislynn that video rocks,i really like how he doesn't lift at all, while driving one handed into that blinding sunlight.
Great vid. It's definately all about the sound. I picked up a vinyl record several years back called Vintage Sports Cars in Hi-Fi. It was recorded back in the 50's in England. It's got a bunch of different cars like Bugatti and Maserati running individually and then a recording of them all racing. You just gotta love that growly sound the old race cars had.
If you are after great sounds from across the years pick up a book called 'Into the Red'. It describes the experiance of driving race cars from the begining of the 20th century right up to end of it. Best thing is it comes with a CD where you can hear the cars drive away from the pits and in one case do a complete lap of Goodwood. Dig it out, you will not be disapointed. P.
