Pretty cool. I liked it. Thanks for sharing. The cab driver scene was my favorite. Reminds me of my snowmobile rides where I scare the hell out of the guys up front when I pass em at 8700rpm. Priceless. I've had the opportunity to drive a couple different Ferraris. The 84 512bbi was my favorite and may still be. The newer ones are certainly like the finest most expensive wine money can buy, but the bbi was like drinking it straight from the bottle. I can't add any more to the Porsche discussion other than the raw and rough 930 would be my choice. Just something "hot rod" about the 2 examples I offered. When I got the chance to drive the bbi it was from Lansing to Detroit, or about a 2hr drive...in anything else. My daily was a 70 SS 454 Chevelle with a small nitrous shot on it and I didn't expect much in the way of true "grunt" from down low. I was wrong.
Thanks guys, all great vids. I've been telling my wife for about 4 years that we need to go visit her sister in Colorado Springs during the hillclimb. I showed her the Peugeot video to explain what it is I want to go see. Now she wants to go too. The Ferrari video is popping up in car forums all over, wonder why?
Didn't want to start a new OT thread for this. 39 minuets of on-board F1 video from the last 50 years. Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Depailler in the 6-wheeler. Cool stuff. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9178761914513537949
In 1962 and 63 I used to go to Laguna Seca with the expectation of watching some of the damdest conglomerations ever seen. One of them was a Lotus 23 (it was rear engined I know) with a Ferrari V12 stuck in it. It was from the Rosebud Racing Team from Texas. There were a bunch of neat cars racing then. A Mercedes roadster with a Potvin blown SBC, Allen Grant driving the 289 Cobra and I can't recall the drivers name that was in the Hollywood Sport Cars MGB that embarassed a lot of Vettes. But the neatest, most awsome deal of the weekend was sitting in the oak trees, on the downhill corkscrew and listening to that Lotus/Ferrari coming through. Damn, I wish I had a VCR back then.
Here are a few more Ferrari videos... podcasts I produce for FerrariChat.com http://www.ferrarichat.com/podcast Hot Rod podcast coming soon
Meteor: YEEESSSS!!!!! I've got a copy, when everything is really bad, I pop it in and get well!! Incredible idea, I do know he was fined (or something ) when the gendarmes found out about the movie. It was only available underground for the longest time. The sound, primitive as it was, is pure music!! Thanx for bringing it up!
Finally got to hear this thing as it should be heard....loud! Now, forgive me for saying this Ryan but......How in the name of all things holy hot rod is this OT? Correct me if I'm wrong (I know my Ferrari history)......Enzo just wasn't satisfied with the race cars he was driving for Alfa and Fiat. So, he did what we all do.....built his own, his way. He was hardly involved with his 'streetcar' building. Enzo was all about racecars. The last 'street car' to receive his stamp of approval was the F40. As dicussed earlier, not really a street car but more a race car with plates. IMO, Enzo would be pretty disappointed in the latest offerings from Maranello when it comes to 'street cars'. He never needed A/C, power windows, locks, abs....none of that crap. He needed power, style (God, the old Ferraris just drip with style, both race and street), and money for race car building. I work a bit with Dan Webb who got started restoring vintage Ferraris. According to him, the build quality of body panels, trim, etc was crap. The drivetrain, however was what made a Ferrari a Ferrari. That's where Enzo earned his rep as a top builder of all things fast. One day, I WILL have a Ferrari. Not a new one......rap stars can have those. I want a vintage early 50's race car with tags Ferrari. Or maybe a Testarossa from the Late 80's-early 90's. WHo knows. I do know hot rod Italian cars have Enzo's last name on the deck and his heart and soul under the bonnet.
