Just made myself a surf trike, to carry my surf kayak to the beach. Started with an early '50s? JC Higgins, some Porsche wheels and a little tubing...plan to make bodywork for it this winter.

Man, there are some great bikes on this thread. The green one in this photo is EXACTLY like the one I had as a kid. Talk about bringing back some memories!

Real cool thread. Don't know what I'd be doing today if I wasn't THAT kid who tore his bike down every day in the summer to build it different each time.
I wasn't as lucky as most kids back then(I say back then-I'm 38 so, back in the 70's). Folks couldn't afford to buy me a whole bike. So for a b-day I got a frame(TAKARA-remember those? I thought I was a BMXer), x-mas came along and I'd get the wheels, next b-day the forks...etc...
An older kid down the street hooked me up with 3 pairs of forks welded together. Take off those heavy motomags and put on some spokes with a whitewall slick on the back and WHAMMO. I got me a chopper.
Now I look back and think I am the lucky kid for having to put it together/take it apart myself. Don't think I'd have the "Nah, I can fix it" attitude today if it weren't for those days. Thanks mom and dad:).
