DAMN! Nice find, hope they post more updates! Someone posted that they think it is a Type 23 Bresia model. That is the SHOC 16 valve engine with the "Banana" tappets. We find Civil War ironclads they find Bugattis, nice catch.

  6. that made my day.

Probably running when parked. I'm guessing someone got ginned up and thought it would be a swell idea to take his Bugatti out for a spin on a (not quite) frozen Swiss lake.

Doesn't look like trhey offloaded it from a Barge or anything so maybe it was just off of the boat ramp. A lot of people dumped stuff or destroyed it before the Nazis took over just so they would not get it. I'm wondering if that was what happened here. Maybe they thought they could pull it back out after the war but they never made it to the end of the war.

Switzerland was neutral, don't think the Nazis messed with them too much.

Rough value restored would be sokewhere between $100,000 and $150,000. It's not one of the super high dollar models. But parts are just expensive. Somebody will want to save that car though, even though I think it would make a great addition to any museum in preserved "as found" condition. I'd want to see it.

Lake Maggiore is mostly in Italy with just a little tip right over the border. Likewise the town of Ascona is just a few miles over the border into Switzerland too. They never said what part of the lake the car was found in. However, if someone was making a run for it they could cross the border and ditch the car there.

Second article says the car is unrestorable, what a pack of wimps.

Small hook w/some vintage brake cable?

  27. talked to my father, he noted that early lit mentions more than one car "falling off" the barges that ferried people and other things across the lakes. If you look at the pics...the car was very close to a ramp...

  28. Was it found right next to some barrels of German 'Heavy Water?'

  29. It came out in one piece, how unrestorable can it be?
