Check out the Heavy transport lifting the shuttle, they do seem to have that end of the market cornered, those transports are monsters I have had a little to do with them down here, huge belly holds on em, put just about anything in there.

Dad calls 'em "Swing-Wing Edsel II's." I hardly ever hear them called Aardvarks.

Another one checking in. I was on the Enterprise '69 WestPac. ATN in the E2 Hawkeye squadron. That's the one with the big round radome on top.

We had those russian bombers overfly us with our Phantoms in cloooose formation a few times, too.

Lots of stories to tell, won't bore you, though. Long time ago.

  4. Please bore us! THis type of stuff is pretty relevant to us hot rodders. Lots of our boys died so we could have the freedoms we have, like building hot rods.

  5. yeah all these sotries are great ,places like g503.com are full of old time soldiers and stories, jeep collectors and equipment, ,
all my uncles and my dad and alot of friends are gone now, from ww2 and korea, the stories are unreal, plus the pictures the took with a old brownie camera, and developed under a home made dark room,
    amazing,stuff,
i have a huge picture my uncle had taken with marilyn monroe standing on a f84 g ,in korea, they flew cover for the aircraft flying in the USO,1954,
and many more, stories they don't get to tell anymore firsthand,:( the reason we can be free is because of the service people:)

They really DID COPY the 29 EXACTLY --- Even down to duplicating a PATCH put over some Bullet holes on the one they picked to tear down to replicate.

Every body involved was so afraid of Stalins ire that when he said copy it , they missed NO DETAIL .

Here's a shot of an E2 during an overfly of the USS America. I was always amazed by that big dome. I think that it must have been hard to access and maintain. Ever work on a B1? Talk about hard to access and maintain! Only Rockwell would put circuit breakers behind a stress panel in the main wheel well.

And another shot of E2's, on the flightdeck of the USS Kitty Hawk with F4's belonging to VF-114 in the foreground and background. Many of the skills that I use today working on hot rods, I learned from working on the F4 and going to the Navy service schools. :)

I flew crew in a P-3 (VP-16) Anti sub and patrol shit. Once saw a Phantom with it's nose up in the bomb bays of a Badger off North Africa. Common courtsy when picked up by an escort just to show you were empty, but never open the doors when your flying towards their vessals it might make them too nervious. Cold war games were fun, to look back on, but scared the shit out of me back then.

We picked up 2 MIGs once, checking us out because we were getting too close to some of their war games. Those pecker heads had every missle you could think of hanging all over. One of our Ordinacemen pulled down his flight siut and mooned the MIG's. I figured that would piss them off, but you could see them both laughing as they pulled away.

Harrasment worked both ways, and for the most part it was just done in fun.

How about a trip to Oz! The whole time I was in the Navy, the "Powers That Be" promised us that we would get to go to Austrailia, the land of super strong beer, and hot, round eyed girlie girls. Yea, right. All we got was San Magoo and "Hey Joe...Throw some Peso" in Olongapo City, PI. This shot of the ol' Shitty Kitty is from this year. I'm glad to see that someone finally got to go to Oz. :)
