Help wife has an opportunity to go to Dubia and lead a private school and I'm wondering what an old [66] hamber might find there. Any hambers in this part of the world? I'm a retired mfg eng with a background in tool and die making, machining, and management. Any comments ? PM me as this is way OT if you can help, thanks in advance.

,great people will always be an outsider,
everyone drives like a complete race car driver, red lights mean nothing, p***ing speeding,

government pays for all heath care, women are treated like rest of muslim countries.
won't be allowed to just wonder around sightseeing unless you are with her or a group ,doesn't take

long to get used to the feel of what
is right or wrong to do

you can buy anything they have all the stores we have here, all the fast food

very limited social places, you will end up living in a gated housing area for americans,or other countries

booze is available at the bigger hotels, and restaurants, fabulous food, can get any american style of cut, right from here,

i would not go unless you have something to do there. gotta hook up with company , there is no work for you to "just do'

it is styled after florida, so it drives you nuts thinking where you are,

whatever the hottest you been this place is hotter you cannot go out in some weather too hot!! anyhow
read up guess i would not p*** it up if the teaching job is what she wants, so many places you cant go anymore

Could just be me, but a western woman in a leadership position, in a country with muslim norms, is a frickin time bomb waiting to go off. Certainly not anything I'd be interested in trying out.

They are trying to make that country something it is not ready to be. You couldn't pay me enough to go live there for more than a few months. How long is this "opertunity"? What would you do with your hot rod(s)? I sure as hell would NOT take them with. I would never feel at ease in that part of the world.

There are a great deal of westerner's in Dubai. That's why that country has such awsome stuff in it; westerner's do all the design and work, because those people don't work three days a week for some MOOslim holiday. Lots of cool stuff there, including a drag strip. A handy guy could pull in some real bucks working on hot rods over there.

I know a lot of Aussies working there, if you go there to work ( and theres no other reason to be there) you are a visitor and nothing else. The locals will never ever accept you because you are beneath them.
Issues of religion aside ,one thing that turns my guts about Dubai is the practice of human trafficing, whether it's Russian pros***utes or indian orphan boys press ganged into riding camels as jockeys , the Dubai people are able to get away with this because of the wests need for access to their ****ty little bit of sand.

It's merely a window dress-up for the iraq conflict nothing more ,nothing less.

Unfortunately, this thread is taking a political turn.

Many of the opinions here are from folks who obviously haven't been to Dubai.

Hopefully, someone with more recent & pertinent experience will PM you.

Dubai is much more "westernized" than most here seem to think...

Because of the few who feel the need to politicize a legitimate question, I'm closing this thread.
