Well I have to move... I have the opurtunity to move either to York, PA or Florence, KY Dayton, OH or Louisville, KY... I first need to find a job but wht the heck was lookin when I found this one... Hows the car sceen in these areas... i know pretty much about Dayton and Louisville... How bout the other places.. BTW I'll be sellin some stuff....
You need to move to York,Pa. or that general area.SoWhat Speed Shop is located south of there(Clark is so dreamy ) and fatabone(Junior) he is a stud.Plus that is where the Jalopy Showdown is(ScarryLarry). There are alot of other HAMBers in that area. Sawzall and Tokyo are not too far away from there.I am about 2.5 hours from that area. You got All the Carslile shows,Hershey in the fall,Goodguys show at Hershey(if you are into that sort of thing ) and lots of other smaller shows .I think that general area would be a great choice.Good luck !!
As far as a scene, York would be the place to go. If you want a low cost of living I would go to Dayton. Just curious, why these locations?
I spoke to Lil John last night and from what he said, these are some of the places where the company he works for has locations that he can transfer to. I can't imagine the cost of living being too much different between York and Dayton. Not like what I'm gonna face when I move from Dayton to Corona, CA next year, OUCH. John and I have a sis in Louisville and I'm gonna be here in Dayton for a little while. I told him that if he doesn't wanna go west with me, that he should go with York. His company has a facility in Cali, but I think it's in the Bay area. Help him out guys. Help make a tough decision a solid one. Vance
I've been living in York for almost five years, and it's okay by me. I've lived in a few places, but I grew up in St. Louis and York reminds me of a smaller St. Louis. The city has some great architecture, affordable housing, a burgeoning arts/entertainment scene downtown, high taxes, lousy schools, and a fair amount of white flight. The suburbs are expanding and becoming more expensive. Commuters from Harrisburg (State capital) and Baltimore are driving that growth. Good variety of activities and events, especially if you're willing to make relatively short drives to Harrisburg, Baltimore, or even Philadalphia. As mentioned, lots of car activities and also an active motorcycle scene. Overall, it's a good place to be.
I live about a hour and a half from Louisville, KY. Its pretty nice being in the middle of Louisville and Nashville. Swap meets and shows are pretty close.
I was raised in this area and wanted to move to Florida when I was younger. Now I like the central PA area. Lots of car stuff to do. We've got some really good junkyards. Some great shows (Jalopy showdown!) The best swapmeets (hershey!!) I like cars too much to move. I'm sure there are other areas just as good. I think Ohio has some areas that have a good hot rod friendly area. Clark
Louisville is a short drive from Indianapolis too. There's quite a few good shows around - Nats in L'ville, Goodguys Indy, NHRA races in Indy, Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, decent swap meet in Louisville, etc... Florence KY is across the creek from Cincinnati, pretty good sized town. There are a few HAMBers around Northern KY, Brandon is up there somewhere. Both Louisville and Florence are located where you could actually live outside the city a little bit and still be close enough to commute. Good luck with your decision.
I grew up in Columbus and lived in Dsyton for a while. I liked it but my work took me back to Columbus where I had bought a house. I then moved to Pittsburgh, PA and the cost of living got high in PA I am paying 4x the amount of property taxes for the same valued house. It cost more to regidter and insure cars and the sales tax is higher and gas is more. My costs on everything went up. Now my job will nt be in Pittsburgh any more so I am trying to go back to Ohio. York may not be as expensive as Pittsburgh but it would still be more than Dayton. There is not much of a scene here in Pittsburgh so If I could go to York with my same employer I would consider it to be around other car guys(HAMBers) but I would still choose OH for the lower cost of living.
