OT . . . lost my best friend tonight

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by FiddyFour, Jun 13, 2007.

  1. Fiddy and Mrs. Fiddy,

I was very sorry to read of your loss of your good friend Chancellor. A member of your pack is gone and there's a hole in your heart. Reading about you and Chance brings me right back to January when I had to put down my best buddy. He was part of my family's daily sounds and rhythms and touches. He was the partner walking immediately behind or beside, the nose touching one's hand unexpectedly asking for a rub, the full-body joy of the notion of a walk together.

The love you all shared didn't just disappear into the ether. It's still part of you.

I thank my departed dog every day.

    You'll be in our prayers.

Fiddy's sorry for your loss. Had to do the same for our chocolate female Lab Belle and know exactly how you feel. My new best friend is a black female Lab named Molly. I don't even want to think what I'd do if something happened to her. It's a shame dog's lives are so short. They truly become part of the family. In time get a new Lab puppy it will help in your healing.

Traves, sorry to hear about Chance, Only met him the one time I visited. We had to put one of our old schnauzers down a couple years ago. Life sucked at our house for a few days. Know the felling, but when it comes time and they are hurting and can't have a quality life, it's up to their best friend to make the tough call. You did that for your buddy.
    Condolences from the Gordons

  8. Thoughts are with you guys. Shop dogs rule.

  9. Fiddys, sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our 3 year old Harlequin Dane (Harley) to dysautonomia this spring. She was my best buddy and hung out with me all the time. No other dog will be a replacement. You do still have one hound left correct? Love her just that much more.

  10. I'm sorry bud...
I know how much I love my flea bag,
so my heart hurts for ya'll...
I know it doesn't seem like it,
but the best thing you could do is
go to the pound or shelter in your area
and rescue one of those furry buddies.
..and in return he or she will rescue your heart....

I'm pretty sure my asshole of a chihuahua isn't going to heaven, but I would miss him all the same because I love him even though he's a total jerk-off.

I'm sorry for your loss my friend, remember Chancellor fondly.

I have 3 Great Danes that are not only part of my family, but my best friends and constant companions, where I am they are. One is really starting to slow down now and I just dread the thought of what's to come, since I've been through it before and it doesn't get any easier. But, I guess the pain we feel when they go is the best tribute we can make to them, and how important their lives were. I pitty people who never feel that pain, because they obviously have never known that special bond that exists between a man (or woman) and his dog. As much as it hurts, it was all worth it, and the pain is the price we pay for all the joy they give. Hang in there, the pain will ease, but all the great memories will remain.

  17. My condolences go out to you. I know how hard it is to put a best friend down. You gave him a good life, and you know he loved you for it.

    Best of luck to you.

Fiddys, I know how much a it hurts to lose a buddy like Chance, I've had to put down more than a couple dogs over my life, and I know that no other dog will take the place of Chance.

A new puppy, after some time to grieve is the best medicine.
Like others have said, the pup doesn't replace the lost dog, it just gives you a new buddy to make new memories with.

I have a choc. lab, his name is Bear, and he's been the best therapy for me, betther than any shrink or physical therapist could ever hope to be.

He's always there for me when I get sad, just laying his head in my lap makes me snap out of the funk I'd be in, and he LOVES going on walks, which helps me to keep myself mobile, cause I can't say no to those big brown eyes while he's holding the leash in his mouth, begging to go for a walk.

And when he goes to his toy box,

(yes he has his own toy box full of tennis balls and other fav.s)

and pulls out a toy, it's impossible not to play with him, cause he does so much for me, I gotta return the favor.

I love my dog, and I plan to get him a twin little brother soon, so he can teach him the ropes before his time comes to go to doggy heaven. (bear's 6yrs old now)

here's a pic of bear in my tiny garage;[IMG]

And here's a photo of what his little bro will look like, (if the wife will let me spend the money for him) silver labs aren't cheap!

Keep the memories close to your heart, and don't be afraid to make new ones.

Our deepest condolences to your family,

    Eric, Heather, Bear,

Smokie, Willie, Mr. Jackson and Kookie

Yes, my lab live's with 4 cats, 1 of which is like his girlfriend!

Sorry to hear that Fiddy. I put my last lab down about 6 years ago. It was the hardest thing I've done for sure. I'm sure yours is up in Heaven fetching tools for some gearhead right now. :)

  22. Sorry for your loss, my wife and I also have the kids with four legs and fur. It is always tough to lose them. Give your remaining dog an extra hug and biscuit.

  23. nothing harder then having to put down a member of your family.
always remember all the joy that Chance brought you & that you brought him, those memories will be forever w/you....joe

    **Rainbow Bridge**
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Our english setter loves to catch the frisbee literally 24/7, and I'm not exaggerting here. She 'll pick it up and then slam the frisbee at your feet repeatedly until you pick it up and throw it which makes it frustrating when I'm wanting to work on the car. Sometimes I think she'll be around forever but I forget they have a very short life. After reading your post and your situation I won't consider her little habbit as "frustrating" from now on.

My wife and I also don't have any kids and our dog and cat(s) are a big part of our lives so I can understand your grief.

Please don't forget to check out the local animal shelter for your next moocher. Lot of great dogs to be found there.

You've got my deepest sympathies Amigo - I feel for ya. Mama Scotch and I are into the dog rescue thing and have two rescued beagles filling our home and our hearts. We're about to have our first kid, so the dogs have been like our kids. We love 'em and do our best to keep them happy and healthy.

In a similar vein, consider the joy and love you were able to give to Chance. I'm sure his life was filled with as much love as any dog could ever know. You made his time on this planet great, and he was as lucky to have you as you were to have him.

When you can, rescue another dog who doesn't know what it's like to be loved. Maybe they've been through some rough times, and deserve a good home for a change. It's what we did, and I swear the dogs appreciate the good life they've got now. They had a rough start in life, with little love and lots of pain...but now they're lives are full of goodness and affection.

Think about it, and if there's anything I can do to help you find local dog rescue information, let me know.
