I've always liked the Sunbeam layout. In the '90s I played a bit with a Fiat 500/126-powered concept. I have no idea where the drawings are. Air-cooled VW engines in bikes are such a natural that it's been done over and over — and each time the impression is that whoever did it was quite unaware of everyone else who had. I read about the semi-productionised BMW-based "Webley-Vickers" in the '80s: By that time the ungainly Brazilian Amazonas had been in production for a while: It reminded me of the time Harley Davidson wanted to copyright the sound of their motorcycles, describing it in the do***ents as "potato potato". We all know what a VW Beetle engine sounds like: "spud spud spud spud spud ..." I once saw pics of an Alfasud-powered drag bike, with one head forward and one aft like on a Douglas. IIRC it was an unfinished project, which was apparently never finished because I can't find it on the internet now. There were a few Citroën-powered bikes, like the flat-twin MF 650R: Flat-four BFG 1300: What else? My brain keeps wanting to go 13B ...
Leon, I'd like to hear your reasoning as to AI. There is nothing on the bike that cannot be fabricated rather easily. It's not a criticism about your post, just a question.
What it is, is these other threads with AI car stuff in them. Some of them are like Jesus how can you tell that ain't real. And somebody has enlarged everything enough to see that the printing on the wiring is gibberish. **** like that. Regarding that Beezer up there, I'd have some questions. Presumably John knows these photos, but me I'm thinking I didn't even know there were that many slick looking BSA chops even around. Never seen one in real life except when it was something I put together. Back to the bike directly above, what holds the rear fender on ? Also, the bike is beautiful whatever.
The rear fender appears to be bolted to the gross bar that is welded to the frame rails. The fender appears to be tapered so there is no need for struts. Also, on the inside of the fender there may be a long piece of flat bar for rigidity. And of course, you may be correct and I don't know sheep sh*t from apple ****er, and its AI.
Legitimate questions Leon. Unfortunately I don't know these bikes, the pics are on the web and I find them by searching BSA bobber or custom. I've read of rear fenders with stiffeners underneath to avoid a brace or "sissy bar" as Sky Six mentioned, but I wouldn't ever do it. I like the look of an external fender brace. And, I don't know for certain, but I think a lot of these "slick looking BSA chops" are trailer queens and get paraded around Mooneyes and other shows. Lotta show, not much go. I'm collecting parts as I write this to hopefully get in the "Go" category. Plunger frame, swingarm cases and gearbox, ( not compatible of course), rusty cylinder with broken fins that probably needs to go .080 over, Spitfire Scrambler front forks and rear wheel. The makings of a veritable two wheeled death trap!
A-10 cases and crankshaft. And I have no idea where I found this one years ago, but it's what I'm going for in general. I'm guessing it was a plunger bike with the single downtube. What's your take on it? I decided I didn't want the Plunger engine/gearbox bolt together setup so will have to do some fab work along with a weldon hardtail. Hmm, photo won't load.
My pre-unit experience is only with singles and basket case stuff I traded on to others. B33, and a 59 Gold Star we dragged home but haven't dipped into yet.
I've got a real crude hardtail I could cut off an A65 frame and send you. Might not be worth the shipping cost, I'll go look at it.
Thanks Leon, any chance of a photo? I've been toying with the TCBros un***embled hardtail kit, but British Cycle Supply up in Nova Scotia has one already ***embled. Not sure why I can't post the pic of the bike I'm fixated on, maybe it'll work in a PM.
Yeah, I can get a picture of it.......not too good anymore at posting pics here. I'll go check messages.
