I was heavily involved in early Vettes. The '53 was the rarest, with only 300 made. '54s were identical except for more colors than just white. The '55 was also very rare, at about 700-800 '55 cars total. The 6 cylinder '55 models are almost unknown, with about 1% of the production...or only about 6-8 cars having a six.

  2. Great old pics man, that was a great time to be a car guy.

    The Vette was way cool.

The V-8 cars had a 24k gold plated V that was mounted over the small v in the Corvette Script on the side of the front fender.

  3. Nice tribute to your Pops. Great trip back for me. I think I was doing pretty much the same thing as him at about the same time. The picture of the Road Runner in front off the barracks was Dejavu...I could almost smell the inside of those WWII era barracks again.

    Good job.

  4. White motors are cool

This is the same can of Fleet White Single stage I used on the Commander firewall and motor and the ElCamino firewall and motor too.

    Great pics and story!

There were 693 V-8 Corvettes in 1955. That doesn't seem like very many, but there were only 7 (yes, seven) 6 cylinder 'vettes in 1955. The total production was only 700.
