Wow, Really? I used leftover everything in my 31 Pontiac but... it isn't unsafe and it isn't a ****box. I seriously doubt the original buyer understood just what he was getting himself into. When I build stuff there is always the temptation do do stuff the easy way but that's very seldom the right way. Repairing just what "needed to be corrected" is almost never the "right" thing to do.

I'm not quite sure to address your concerns there. I did use early Ford parts and industrial parts in the construction of this. Almost none of the old vehicle survived and was sent to the s**** recyclers as it should have.

If you are suggesting I was to save some of what it was, why and what? Or are you suggesting I was to track down some strange items not normally ***ociated with automobiles and try and incorporate them into this build? There was hardly a safe thing done to this car as it was, and the effort to try and repair it was far in excess or starting over. I was thinking of my customer and his burden to bear in all this. I am doing my best to build a hot rod. Not a theme car and not a period correct traditional car but one that may be familiar with some of the more creative builders of the 60s and 70s.

The reason i like this is actually the ''function before form'' look and feel it has. I have no dea why his shop is called Industrial ch***is but most of the stuff ive seen actually HAS an industrial look to it, like the frame table. Still lookin spot on and not like glued togheter junk.

damm guys your acting like this is a "gold chainer" rebuild! bet the story would be the same if you guys were rebuilding it but with "yeah i saved the dude some money" by reusing unsafe and **** parts!

So.....would this car be a "Traditional" Rat Rod or just a Rat Rod?........and what would make the difference between it being Traditional and a non Traditional Rat Rod....a can of Flat Black paint?..................hehehehe....I just had to ask the question..........I guess the devil made me do it.

Let me help here. The theme was "**** engineering" and what drew the buyer to the car was "lack of knowledge". Its probably best that these were left out.

Glad to see this thread has still got legs.
El P, can you start some more with OT in the ***le?
I'm sure we can all enjoy laughing at what ensues.
    Cheers.

BTW, I reckon Unkl Ian is right - full moon arising - soon.

  17. help me to understand...

if this has been covered, please forgive me for zipping past every post after page 2 that didn't have pictures.

the lower link set up on the rear seems redundant, but there must be a reason that there is a link in addition to the bar that the bag is mounted to.

so what's the thinking/engineering on this set up?

    thanks.

I for one will be happy when Mr Funk has the pockets relined and we can see this one finished.

The original builder should be properly identified (Name address and phone number, as well as e-mail etc.,) so that he can be properly and publicly chastized and humiliated.

After that all the people who complained about this thread should be banned :D

OT, that does mean Over Time.... right :p

Long lower fabricated bar is the lower suspension link. Short lower bar, threaded with HEIMs is to control the platform the air-bag is mounted on. Both are parallel and equal length so the platform is always square to the upper mount.

Some say, Mr Funk is getting close to recovery. Others say it's inevitable that the Scud-Hud will progress very soon.

    Interesting re-build.

But half of the posts in here are like that car was. A bunch of junk stuck together.

This 'rat-rod' fad must be good news for lousy fabricators with shops. "It's not poorly done. It's supposed to look like ****."

Partly my fault on not getting going on this. Dr Marvelus and I took on a project a few months ago that has consumed all of out time and sidelined this and a few other projects in the shop.

I wish it were something truly cool and HAMB worthy, but it's just a nice 51 Chevy PU. Everything is out for paint, powder, polish and chrome. The mad thrash to get this truck done buy Barret Jackson is probably going to kill the both of us.
