My mom taught me the same thing but i must say in this case i feel the need to not say anything nice. Its because of assholes like this, that put these fucking abortions of cars out on the road, that will drive this hobby into the ground and make it harder and harder for us REAL hot rodders to have fun and safe trips out on our roadways. I have heard of alot of states going to safety inspections for hot rods/classics......which may be a good thing if it keeps this shit off the road and maybe put a end to this dumb fad of "Rat rods"

I think we should all thank ELpolacko for being a TRUE craftsmen that has the skills to fix this joke of a car..........ok iam done ranting now

Its clearly in the Rat Rod/ Steampunk/ Artcar garbage pile...

Glad you are saving it ElP, and gettting this heap off the road.
( or start over, or whatever will make the most sense...)

This is the last installment for the night. My better half is cooking me up a fine meal and has drinks with those little umbrellas waiting for me.

As the dismemberment went on and I was cooking up a plan on how to save this car for Mr Funk more exciting fabrication work was found. The good Dr and I assume that this car was concepted and built by stacking items against each, on the floor, other until pleasing to the eye then scraps of metal and what ever was lying about were used to make connections between the aforementioned items.

    Split wishbone mounts:

Master cylinder and brake pedal mounting:

    And rear suspension:

And that's if for tonight. Tomorrow I will continue with the tale of what the good Dr and I are calling the Scud-Hud.

    Until then, good night

When i see shit like that i have to ask myself, At what point did events lead that the person doing that work thought this is the right thing to do.
El polacko your a better man than most taking on someones disaster and fixing it correctly.
    I commend you sir.

You know, all bullshit aside, I can almost see the "fabricator" of this, putting down his torch... taking a few steps back... lighting a cigarette and after a big, long drag, saying, "Man. I. Am. The. Shit."

The fact that you are even trying to fix that thing speaks volumes about your skills. Good luck. Most of us would have started swinging a sledgehammer in frustration already.

Yeah...You're right. It's not like he didn't have any idea. Just none of them were any good.

I see where he was coming from with those top links on the rear 4 bar. If you mount them in the opposite plane to the lowers there's no way that rear end is gonna move. Very secure!

BTW, the new front end is a work of art. Very nice work.

This is exactly what I was thinking of.. If cars like these keep being built and driven and are the cause of more accidents, then the state's going to turn against hot rodders like never before.

We cannot have that happen. Period. Thank you ElP for finding it in you to want to fix such an abortion. One less rat rod on the road out there.

Now I have something to show one of my best friends to explain why I don't like ratrods.

Boy Howdy would I ever like to be standing there beside the car after you are done with it and it shows up at some cruise night and the previous "builder" drags some potential sucker over to it to show off his "artistic creation" and discovers that there is little or none of the "creation" that he did left.

Every time I see more of your work be it a stand for a vise or grinder or a complete redo on a chassis like this I marvel at the design and fab skills you display and the thought that goes into something that looks wild as hell but at the same time looks solid and safe to use or drive as all get out.

Hopefully the owner will see the light and continue to turn the crustymobile into a real hot rod.

No wonder it drove like shit. That piece of the steering linkage with the connecting rod and the pipe wrench with that machined thing...It was just a matter of time before that broke.

Very well said. I've been looking at the before pics and also what ElPolacko is building for this car.....

Ya know, I'm no professional, I mean, I can fix shit but I don't have a big shop anymore and I can't fabricate stuff like what's being done, but seriously what the hell was this assclown thinking when he a) built this wretched mess and b) decided that it was even remotely acceptable to put this rolling abortion on the road.

If this got someone charged with attempted murder I wouldn't be shocked. Shameful isn't the word, I wouldn't put my ex-wife's divorce attorney in that contraption.

ElPolacko is one hell of a mensch for saving this.. "car".

Man, that's some scary lookin shit!! Why would anybody think it's safe to use engine components for anything but maybe a coat hanger or something? And even the connecting rod coat hanger we have in shop class broke with the weight of 4 leather jackets.... The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. Um glad to see it's in good hands though!!! Looking forward to the final product!!!

If you want to see some REALLY nice engineering work, I'll send some pics of the kinetic sculpture the IB English students are building in my metal shop class... It's worth a good laugh.

Damn those pics are scary as hell. ElPolacko that work looks awesome. Can't wait to see more.

  26. Great that they managed to keep most of the original rust in the car,...I hate it when that gets cut out and replaced.

Does the owner realise how lucky is to have found you and not ended up wrapped around a tree?

I have seen the rebar before, but never chunks of pipe wrenches. That is my favorite part.

This is taking the term shade tree mechanic to a whole new level! The builder must have a brother in Law that is a connecting rod salesman! Also noticed part of the jaw of a Pipe Wrench welded in and the oh so clever skeletal fingers holding the headlamps welded up out of nuts and bolts. This thing must be a danger to drive?
