[ QUOTE ] This is why "who" just lurks? I've been in Mr. Cochran's Neighborhood for quite some time now, longer than most. The ongoing magazine debate BS is gay, whether it's about little **** mags, indies, or the corporates. If none of them were around anymore, there'd be increased *****ing about TV shows or other Web sites. If you don't like a magazine, why not put your effort into making sites like this more informative for the traditionalist instead of constantly complaining? [/ QUOTE ] 1) Let me re-phrase by adding "some" guys lurk There, feel better
Welcome Riz, I love R&C with you at the helm. It's my favorite mag these days, it has been for a while. I look forward to it with horizontal trousers. The sub department is fraggin' horrible though. The latest came to my door 2 weeks after it hit the newsstands. That '56 Chevy in this issue is muy bueno. Is there anyway you can put scantily clad women in the mag? Oh yeah, tattoos are for ***s.
Hey Riz good to see you posting! You've been my favorite editor ever since you gave my website a five star review last year! Seriously I like what you've done with the mag and now with Jim A. on board too it should just get better. I was talking to Brandon (his '56 Chevy is on the current cover) tuesday at a cruise night and he is really thrilled! Keep up the good work!
Cool that you you came out of the dark to be part of the HAMB. My question to you as a staffer of this magazine is, You say you want to find good tradtional cars and idea for you to feature but when it comes down to it, you fill some stuff in every once in awhile. I have been a subscriber since 92 or 93 something like that and once in awhile you have a issue that has full of traditional stuff and other months nothing but high dollar stuff. I know the same old story of the dollar rules. One of your employees(Scribe) had come to a fellow HAMBer(Metalshapes) about testing some tires and skid pad rating using his traditonal car. Your staffer requires all this safty stuff to be added and so on while telling him that it was 90% in the bag for using his car. Months go by and nothig is said no phone calls returned and eventually we see the issue with the test and another car is used. Don't you think that is uncool to have someone jump through your hoops to prep his car then no phone call saying anything. Now the new trend is going to be coach built/ hot rods and you are now going to try and find cars that blur that line. Well guess what, that HAMBer that you blew off has that exact car that would run around the car you used in you skid pad tests. My point is don't ask for ideas and even get someone to help you with all the dirty work and then blow them off.
And Riz should be responsible for EVERY conversation that Scribe had? (he has left the magazine if you haven't heard) Have you run a business where you are responsible for EVERY conversation your co-workers have had? Yes that situation is rude, but I don't think Riz is the proper target for your unhappiness. I remain ultimately resonsible for anything I do and say and so should anybody else. And what's the part about "coach built hot rods"??? We just had a issue plan meeting for the next six or so magazines and that topic NEVER came up. As far as the staff and publisher goes it strictly traditional for R&C until we all move to another magazine.
Thanks Ron, I dont quite know what to say, but I guess I'd better say something... My Roadster has been available for testing for some time now, but the reason it has not been picked up might not be due to the writers I talked too ( 2 Writers, 2 Magazines..) Maybe they have to get a OK from somebody, and that somebody might not like the look of my unpainted little car. That is cool, I have no idea what it takes to sell a Magazine. And besides, it is not like I did not go in without a hidden agenda of my own. The Unibody construction of my Roadster is not something that is common with Hot Rods, but it makes sense to do it that way, so somebody or some ( big?) shop might pick it up before I get to claim this particular version of the idea as my own... That is the real reason I have been trying to get it published, plus it seemed like a fun thing to do... As far as the performance goes, it feels strong and handles good. But I don't know how good, it has not run against a clock yet... Right now I am concentrating on my work and a couple of neglected projects that I would like to finish ( or at least get running...) When those are far enough done, I will build a second version of my Roadster ( but with a much more stock looking body ). If any Magazine wants to look over my shoulder while I am doing that, cool. If not, I'll put it all on a website...
[ QUOTE ] it sure turned out nice. Skippy boy moved away and we have nowhere to hang out now. He was like the glue holding the O.C. crowd together. his weekly parties always ended up a drunken mess with guys burning out on his front lawn and Harleys driving the neighbors ****ing nuts. Note to self: dont buy a house within 1 block of the Shifter clubhouse. I miss you skippy boy. [/ QUOTE ] Paulito, now when you come to Bako we can drive my new nieghbors crazy, plus I've got a bigger lawn now, more room for burnouts, Rizz, that thing came out pretty sweet man, ya done good son Skip
hey, my man. yeah but now the lawn is yours instead of rented... that's less funny. Down right destructive actually. I'm all about hangin with the boys but they can peel out on the street like the rest of the white guys.
Hey metalshapes, you know I dug your car enough to put it in the Goodguys Gazette over a few thousand high buck rides at the Scottsdale event and I would be thrilled to do something with it in R&C in the future. Yours was an unlucky case, but it's not beyond being made right. Put me in line for that construction story (hopefully I'm first!).
Jim, you were the first to put that car in a Magazine. So if you are interested, you are first on the construction story. As far as doing something with the Roadster, if it happens, it happens. As cool as that would be, I compare that to getting a trophy handed to you after a race. ( It is a special moment and a nice pat on the back, but the real gratification was during the Race, or in this case during the build...) PM me if you want to know a little more about my plans...
Thanks Skip, I'm sure it's no where near as nice as it woulda been if you 'n' Rudy built it, but I'm havin a lot of fun with it. Hope you're enjoyin your new digs.
RF, Don't forget to call me & Candy when PP arrives! We want to know that all is well! See ya in a couple a weeks -- hold down the fort for me, and read some of my flats if you don't mind. Thanks.
Hey Ratso, the gauge choice for your beater is awesome. Never thought that gauge could look so good. It's funny, it doesn't look that good in my 65.

[/ QUOTE ] I sent him photos of it and he had to call me and ask "what the ****?" I said, dude that thing was in your yard not five months ago! "Oh my god, that's skip's truck!" Needless to say Rizz, you did just fine.
