Art & Inspiration OT Settle a T-Shirt bet?

A friend just read this over my shoulder. He had a little story to tell;

"I was at a car show in LA in the sixties, possibly at the old Pan Pacific auditorium, and Ed Roth was airbrushing T Shirts. The guy in front of me asked if he could do the art work on the front (The ones he was doing had the art on the back and a name on the front) Ed looked at him kind weird and said NO while laughing"

So there you have it

 

I'm an art fag. I think the design dictates what side of the shirt it should be on. Some designs look like crap on the front, and others like crap on the back.

 

Art on the back and your just your website address in approx. 1/2" letters on the left front.

 

If a guy looks at the picture on my back, he's not looking me in the eye like I have to start a conversation. I might be busy looking at cars, shopping for parts, etc. (Also, I really need a pocket on the front, to put my reading glasses in.)

 

To be fair I did vote back. However I faced this same dilema. I designed two shirts this past fall. I had one on a white backround, which I put on front, and a simlar design on rear for a black shirt. They both are ok, but my original passion was back on a black shirt, it does look nice.

 

Coby's right. Big graphic, back...small graphic, front.

 

I'd say front
Only because we never get to take our jackets of in the UK

But we do unzip them in the summer

I want mine on the front. If someone gives me one and the art is on the back, I'll probably use it for a shop rag or give it away. Now if there is art on both front and back, I'm ok with that. No pockets either.

 

I vote for back. My little girls have tees with art on the front.

 

I always prefer art on the back, and if anything has to be on the front, I like it to be a small logo.

 

Are you saying if it was on the back , and someone was giving you one they would be concentrating on the artwork rather than concentrating on giving you one

back of the shirt. only if there's a pocket logo. if there's no pocket or logo, then either way will work.

 

always on the back,I hate it when people are talking to me and stare at my shirt instead of looking me in the eye!

both here ,but if i was making them for myself,it would be back w/ a sm logo on the pocket.did we vote yet on pocket or not yet? ya im wondering about that green glob on your noggin also.

Front artwork makes my gut look smaller, and I need all the help I can get . But honestly either one would be fine by me.

 

I like the artwork on the front, but if yyou wear a shirt for advertising think about this, three years ago I got an event shirt from New Zealand ( helping a fellow HAMB member out ) , I have wore that shirt to various events and only two people have noticed the country and asked about how I got the shirt. One person was last summer in Saginaw Michigan at our church convention.

I used to make artwork for T-shirts for several years and from what I remember, almost all of the artwork was for the back, with a small logo in the pocket area on the front. Hence, I voted for artwork on the rear in your poll.

 

T-shirts: Art on the back, logo on the front. Pockets are OK, too... don't you guys ever carry a pen???

Ive always liked the back but if you want people to advetise your logo print it in the front so when they get there piture taken you get free advertising.

 

Well its official then. My wife wins the right to order the T-Shirts from now on.
I'll still take mine on the front, though.
