I just saw part of it for first time and my jaw hit the floor with seeing the destruction of approximately...................

4 or 5 Plymouth Fury 2's ummm, gimme dat 440 please....
and unless i'm mistaken some kind of green and black hemi cuda or similar when that lady gets out and the garbage truck falls on it!!!!!

wow, that does not help kids like me find any affordable parts

  2. Yep, lots of classics got sent to the "yard in the sky" making that movie. And you have to remember H. B. Halicki wrote, directed, starred, and PRODUCED the whole thing.

I was fortunate to be able to see the original BEFORE the remake came out. Halicki also made another movie called JUNKMAN. It's pretty kool, because it's got a ton of 70's Camaro CHiPs patrol cars. Not quite as much smash it up mash it up, but worth the watch.

  3. I was thinking that same thing, but I forgot to mention it.

I used to have a 1964 SS Impala. I was in the Late Great Chevys here in Tulsa. I was talking wrench one day with one of the guys in the club and he was saying something along those lines. When he built his Impala in the 80's, NOBODY really wanted those cars after they weren't new anymore. They were easily found and cheap to purchase. He also went on to say that he scrapped a ton of cars that were WAY better than what people start out with today.

It's a crying shame, but we only find out things like that in retrospect.

  4. the original is on dvd............and i do believe he died while making "junkman".

  5. so this thread will be on topic...there is a `34 ford sedan in the movie during the chase VERY briefly , if you blink , you will miss it....it is just as they are crossing a bridge

i have the original in VHS...the jacket says "93 cars destroyed in 40 minutes!"

I believe he died making a sequel to "Gone in 60 seconds"...not during the filming of "Junkman". A rigged tower fell early, catching wires which pulled a pole down on top of him.

I spotted that Rod too...thought it was a Chevy sedan, but just caught a quick look. Could have easily been a Ford.
Saw something like a 55 Chevy project getting towed by a towtruck too...

This was the first time I ever saw that movie and its WAY better than the Nick Cage version.

Damn, those Mustangs could take a load of punishment!!! Did ya see the flex wave pass thru it during that last big jump? Or how it cleaned out the pole???

When it landed on the nose the whole car quivered but didn't buckle real bad!
The Chargers in the DUKES of HAZZARD would fold up on landing and they were supposedly much tougher than the Mustang in BULLETT.
Guess Ford made some mods as the cars got bigger. :)

The one cool thing I really like about that whole movie, is they only used one elanore for all the scenes. On the DVD they talk about it haveing a specail NASCAR frame and suspension. Still one of the best chase scenes to date in my book.

The part that impressed the hell out of me was the fact that he done all of his own stunts. The Mustang swatting that pole was unplanned and he shook it off and stood on the gas again.

    Ahhhhhh....well, THAT could explain alot!
Prepped by a NASCAR race shop! I imagine that whole unit body was stitch welded to reinforce the spotwelds...like they do in the Rally cars.
Still, picked up some respect for a body style I NEVER really got into. Looks suprisingly good with just caps and trim rings too.

Ya know...I think that body style could take a bit of customizing with those long, sleek panels.
Wonder were they ever done as something other than a big tired muscle car?
    Just a thought....
