My Dad {Ed M Barlow] worked on this Bell Xp77 in upstate NY in WW2,he was the molded plywood expert,it was all made of plywood, they cut the size of engine back cus they could not get the bigger HP ones [ they built two planes] it was designed for,so test were not up to speed.
By the time it was completed was too late, yet Dad said it didn't show on radar, before they covered it with alum for later tests & airshows and that was not let out at all.

Also have Roar-n-Soar this weekend(car, boat, plane show) near Lakeland.

    Now including 6 prop-job fighter aces(F6F Hellcat,P-51 Mustang,and P-38
Lightning) to regale you with stories and hang out with. Not exactly sure
on the Lightning pilots but the 2 each Hellcat and Mustang pilots are
definetly aces. I just re-synched the carbs and threw a set of plugs
    in the Hudson. Can't wait.

I was sitting at a diner in Irving today having lunch and talking about the WWII show last night with a co-worker. A couple of older guys at the adjacent table overheard and struck up a conversation. As it turns out they were father and son retired military pilots. The father had actually flown B-24 missions over Germany. He was the real deal, and we talked for as long as my lunch break would allow. One thing he said is that the Ford built B-24's were finished to a much higher standard and really detailed compared to the Consolidated built planes.

It was a great veterans day and I thanked both of them for service to our country.

Not only talk with them, but do like I always make a point to do , tell them Thanks and shake thier hand and let them know they're not forgotten and you appreciate what they did for us, they went through some very gruesome things and lived to tell about it , the best of the best a afr as I'm concerned !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the chance to get there twice, once back in the late 80's and just a couple of years ago, each time was "Stunning" to say the least, the second time was even better as there was so much more "new" displays, there was also some leather jackets on display with art on them and patches , if you haven't been there , it is a "MUST SEE" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll 2nd and 3rd a vote for this show. GREAT family day with cars, planes, RC stuff, racing boats, autocross, etc. And you can go either day, the programs on Sat / Sun are the same. One of the best time to go in the year as your admission costs are included in the show reg $$. Gary

WOW, those are incredible photos. Thanks so much for posting. Love the shot of the B-25 on a bombing run. Cool stuff. I took my folks up to Worcester airport a few yrs. back to tour the Collings planes. B-17, B-24 and look at the P-51 2 seat seat mustang. Inspiring stuff !!!

Got a chance to ground tour an He-111 in Palm Springs Ca. a few years ago.
Later I heard the plane was lost with loss of life. Heard the experienced pilots struggled long and hard to save it and themselves. I heard the expression "Gave Them The Whole Nine Yards" came from 27 feet of 50 cal. machine gun belt!

And heads up for a show on ESPN Nov. 1,2011 at 7:30 pm profiling Joe Kittinger arguably the 1st man in space and first to break the speed of sound
sans vehicle... Kermit took the P-51D up for the cameras and really had the
    supercharger singing.

Very cool. I've always had a thing for WWII planes. You can beat the lines of a Corsair.
