This post is not to in anyway disrespect the Godfathers of the KKOA and its not intended to start a soap opra. I just want to voice and oppinion to fellow Kustom Kempers and all around HAMB'ers and recieve some feed back. I recieved my Trend Setter a few days ago and as I read I began to feel really out of place. It has taken me a few days to organize my thoughts about the leadership of this organization and this is how I feel: The leadership is tired, possible too tired. I have the utmost respect for Mr. ***us and Mr. Weesner but to be honest they don't seem to be speaking to me. It is preached that we should be trying to "fire" each other up and bring in new members but after reading the TrendSetter I felt discouraged. I think its time to bring in another voice, a younger voice. I am not emplying some 18-25 year old chicken head either. I am speaking of someone not quite so burned out someone who is in touch with the younger generation, someone with their head screwed on, and someone who understands the little guy who doesn't have $100,000 in his/her ride because they will never see that much money in their life. I think that someone as I have described would do more to promote and encourage the Kustom Kempers much more than AARP quotations and stories of being a burned out legend. How many of you are members of the KKOA right now just to get the discount on entry fees for shows? I wanted to be part of something that was a movement of some of the koolest people and automobiles on the planet but I feel I am (as usual) a day late and a dollar short. If the KKOA doesn't do something different soon I will be paying full price for future shows. I could be wrong for what I've said and I often speak out of turn. I would welcome any comments good or bad about this subject.

You are, your a member of the HAMB!

I agree with your post but fella's like us are starting to make up a large presence at not only KKOA shows but others as well. I've only been to the Sherman-Denison show four times but the presence of HAMB (and the likes) members grows every year. I think it's only a matter of time before we get our recognition. Until then enjoy the show! [IMG]

YOU can make a difference in that organization. Become more active, serve as a member of the board, volunteer your time at their shows, write articles for their mag. In other words, YOU make the changes, don't wait for others to do it. Trust me, they will welcome your help and input.

Man I'm going to tell ya something. I work with a lot of rodders that can't stand Mr. Weesner. He has ruined the Hangin Dice show. Maybe he'll redeam himself by atleast bringing it back to Fort Smith.....I don't know?

I personally wish some one some how would start a Nat. orginization to promote people and thier cars like ours.

  12. You touched on some valid points here.

The most valid being that we (the younger generation) don't have the money to build kandy kustoms w/ beautiful interiors. We can't handle the cost of $10,000 paint jobs or $5,000 interiors. It's just the way it is. The old, rich guys are croaking left and right. A lot of the younger crowd is into ricers. The few younger guys who have some coin have goine the Euro. route (BMW, Porsche, Etc.)

I think this is going to contribute to a different type of kustom in the future (it's happening right now). Plan on seeing more ground s****ing, nosed and decked mild rides. After all, if we save we can at least afford to get some bags under something. If you do see full blown chopping and fabbing, plan on seeing primer over it. Ain't no way you can afford that type of work and also get a nice paint job.

Why would you want to go those shows anyway? All the coverage I've ever seen of them show nothing but "high dollar, cookie cutter, lawn chair, crying doll, craft show for the ladies" **** anyway. Come to think about it all these "kustom Kulture" shindigs are beginning to be all the same too! Cars are for driving not for sitting in some gr*** parking lot. My 2 cents.-stick

Uhhhhhhhh, no. He started one hellava website that could turn into that. How about a HAMB newsletter every month or bi-monthly? Hell a person's yearly fee's or due's alone would help Ryan fund this mad house that we all love!

Another perspective on the $100,000 cars:

Alot of old timers seem to have the same cars they've have for yeaaaaaaaaaaars and years. Considering these cars are never 'done' per se. Can't you see yourself easily throwing 100k over 20 years into a car that is your heart and soul? There's a fine line between gold chainer, and someone whos put 20-30 years of hard earned cash into their pride and joy.

I don't know about any of you, but some cars are bound to us. Others come and go, but ask any old timer, theres always that 'one.' Those $100,000 cars may not be so far out of reach if you take that into consideration.

Hey, bumpstick, no offense, but you'r a real jack***.

The same reason I go the the shows, and I've been doing this for over 25 years, is the same reason I joined this board. Meeting new people with the same interests, exchanging ideas, admiring other peoples hard work, making friends, having fun, enjoying myself. Aren't many people in my 'neighborhood' with the same interests as me. Places like this, and cruise nights, and car shows bring together people like us.
Forget all the ******** about gold chainers, go and meet people and have a good time. Most likely there are more good people there, than ***holes! Esp in the Kustom Kar scene. Most Kustom guys are regular guys who do some, if not most (or all) of the work on their cars. If you'd put aside your prejudices against "old guys with shiny cars" you might find that out!

My HAMB news arrives a couple times a day,at least, and I don't have to wait for the Mailman.
Harcopy newsletters are a thing of the past.

The money we save not buying mainstream car mags should fund this place 100%+ no problem.

Goodguys has recognized the changing demographics and has started to do something about it,
we will see if they are successful. The whole Kustom scene is at a crisis point again, aside from guys doing their own work, there are not alot of serious customs being built right now.

I am a member of KKOA. I used to be a member of NSRA and Goodguys. I spend most of my effort on my local club, which is the OKC Eliminators. It was my dad's old club that I helped revive. There is a lot that goes into a national organization, so I wouldn't be too upset.

If you feel that they are not talking to you, then I feel you should try and gather the guys in your local area to attend a national event. You have to support someone before they will start to listen to you.

I am not preaching here....just viewed it from both sides.
When I was the Pres of our club I listened to people that were proactive more so than someone who never attended the meetings etc.

I agree the Trendsetter is kinda thrown together but I would almost bet that the same guy is stuck putting it together month after month......he may only be so creative. Ya know?

Its easy to trash 100,000 dollar trailer queens when your broke I realize that but thats isn't the point. The 100,000 dollar cars have there place just like my 132.50 car has its place. My point is that as the new generation comes up we need someone to push toward keeping these things that we all enjoy alive. As Mytlo56 said the youth are going for the rice burner( blech yak cof puk) and if the "Godfathers" start catering to these things and acting so dissinterested in our thing then ground is lost. As far as being able to make a difference Denise, I would love to be more involved and I hope to be soon but I'm a nobody and we need a somebody to make these statements to get some attention.

I think what the problem is with EVERYTHING is that the majority of people in the car scene has gotten away from whats its all about and what got it started.

"Hot Rods" started out as poor folks like me build cheap, and fast transportation......and looking kool while doing it.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but what does Weesner have to do with "any" KKOA shows? Did his column ruin the show, or are you confusing him with ***us?

OK, how about writing an article to submit as a specimen of your work. Be mindful of the stories content and spelling etc. Cover an event that is close to you. Take pictures of the cars in a good format that works for the publisher. I wrote several articles for **** in CK Deluxe just because I was tired of reading articles about shows that were 2,000 miles away.

They were glad to have new submissions and it gave me a lot more respect for the magazine guys and what they have to do. It's not easy keeping track of who owns what and what name goes with what frame. If you contact KKOA they may even embrace the idea of a youth column. Ya never know til you try.

Jester, my suggestion is to write them a letter/email telling them alittle about yourself and what you want to accomplish. Ask them if you could write an article or two for their publication. Then, once your foot is in the door, perhaps you could then persuade them to have "special" parking, events, entertainment, trophies, ect, geared toward the "younger" kustom krowd. [IMG] Trust me, they will do it if it means attracting more people to their events. They just need someone to take charge and start the ball rolling. Most of the powers that be would love to have fresh, young blood thats willing to put in some time each month to help keep things rolling in the right direction.

The best gift you can give someone is your time.

Looks like Root and I are thinking along the same lines [IMG]

You will learn once you grow up and mature that money is not everything and time is a very valuable commodity.
