I started my truck by taking pictures of all the similar trucks that I could find. After sorting through them I came up with what I though would work for me.

Then I built a model of the truck. A scale model is a cheap and easy way to see what is likely to work; or not. I built the model differently on each side in order to try out different ideas.

After all that I cut the truck up. Somewhere in the middle of the project I changed horses mid stream as it were.

The model and pictures were still valuable giving me a place to start.

So here I am 2/3 of the way done with the cab mods and finally made a drawing.

So bottom line; I used all of the methods at one time or another.

    Use what works for you.

I do a rough sketch just to see how things look together and try to stick with that, but always keeping an open mind cause I might get a better idea down the road

Chris took an interest in my '36 Roadster build and drew up many rendering which I am grateful for. Anyone who can dream up and "draw" like Chris and Jeff have the world by the tail. Don't know how they sleep at night with all the crap that runs threw their heads!

I figure anyone artistic enough to draw a decent picture of what they want to do can also visualize it in thier head just as well.

drawings are for you to give to another guy who is actually doing the work. I had some seats done on an old Nova I had. me and the upholstry guy discussed it, then when I brought the car over I had drawn a picture. I told him "here's a drawing" and he seemed insulted at first, then realised he was going to put the pleats going up and down when I wanted them across. so in that case a drawing was a good thing.

I always wonder how a persons brain works when they come here and ask for someone to photochop some different wheels on thier car or some other modification. are there really people who can't visualize things like this?

x2, i like to draw and have been since iwas probably 5 or so. theres pics in my profile of my sketches, but to me, drawing is very precise and when im thinking of ideas its just too much going on in my head to get down on paper. ive built and rebuilt, and re designed parts or elements of my apache so many times in my head its unreal. ive never drawn it tho. probably never will. idk, i just like to look at my project in person and visualize it while im looking at the real thing. then my mind goes ape shit all day about how i can make it work

A while ago I was desperate for someone to photoshop me some pics, would have paid hundreds of $$$$ after all the Photoshop program is over $300 then you have to learn to use it.

So a friend tipped me off that you can do the same thing in Paint which I have on my computer for free. I did the pics myself in a couple of hours. Now that I know how it is done, could do a picture in about 10 minutes.

You probably have Paint on your computer, why not see what you can do, what have you got to lose?

I bought "Microsoft Digital Image Pro" for like 40 bucks with a rebate about 10 years ago. you don't need to spend a bunch of money for basic photo editing software. I manipulate photos all the time.

I did this one from a stock bodied car. chopped, lowered, shaved. the wheels were already on it, I have another version with unpolished 5 spokes on it. I didn't do it to see what it would look like because I already had a picture of it in my brain, it looks exactly like my 'Photochop" version.
