I was always taught, accident or not, you are responsible for what you do. regardless of the actual circumstances.

as a side note, was this her first time driving?? mom should have known better than to put her close to ANYTHING as a first time driver. my best learning to drive advice always involved deserted LARGE parking lots. When in high school I took LOTS of teenage girls into parking lots and taught them how to drive in the unplowed snow, then later taught them how to park correctly :D

and solo, your GF should be responsible for repaying any "emotional damages" you may have incurred ;)

  3. Don't get angry, let the insurance handle it. This is a teachable moment for this young woman.

  5. Not a fun feeling, huh.
Same basic thing happened to me a few years back.

I had JUST put a new paint job on my '70 Nova when the local pizza delivery guy (translate as stoner) decided to play "Dukes of Hazzard" in the snow past my apartment...

  6. good time to learn about the consequences of your actions. No belt necessary here, but at least let her help pay and fix the problem she caused. I am sure she feels bad.

When I was 15 - my mom let me cruise the station wagon alot. Then one day I was going for a cruise and I had forgotten my grandama was over and she parked behind us. BAM! I smacked the grand marquis and did $160 worth of damage. I know because I paid for it.

I am glad every one is OK and I am not trying to be an ass or anything, but if she was backing out of the driveway and then hit your car, does that mean you were parked on the street directly across from the driveway? If so, that is an awfully bad place to park. If I ever have to park in the street, I always make sure I am not across from someone's driveway.

It's all fixable. The real issue is that the girl should have alot more time behind the wheel, driving where there is nothing to hit. If anyone is at fault here it is the person who didn't spend enough time teaching her to drive. Hitting the gas instead of the brake just shows that she did not have enough time to develop the right instincts for driving safely.

I glad no one was hurt and that you are taking it well.

I had something like that happen to me. I just got done painting the car drove it home and parked it in the drive way. I jump in the shower and about two minutes later my wife at the time came in the bathroom and said you are going to kill me. I said why. No answer. I jump out of the shower went outside. There sat my car with the right front fender push back about 10 inches. You could not open the door. Here she came home like alway. She back her car into the driveway like always. But this time the car was in the way and she did not see it.

This the same woman that call me one day to say she had a flat going to work. As I went out the drive way I could see that the tire was flat when she left. She drove 10 miles on that tire. There was no tire and the aluminum rim was ground flat. She said she did not know it was flat untill she got to work.

The difference here is he knows the purpotrator. This thread would have an entirely different vibe it was just some random 15 year old girl...

  11. that's awesome!! It's like my mom didn't ever mention a problem with her brakes, when she finally did there were 1/4" deep gouges in the rotors !!! What the hell - when questioned about it - she was like - I guess it has been making some noise for a couple weeks.

To answer some of your questions I guess she cried and sobbed for an hour or so telling her mom that I was going to kill her. lol she told me she was getting a job in the next few weeks and would give me her first paycheck. I told her thanks but it would take a few of her checks and not to worry about it thats whats insurance is for = ) I said let me give you a mohawk and it will make up for it hahaha

I park my car on the street in between her house and another house she came out of the driveway in a half circle kinda way and hit it.

    Haha hairdresser revenge. Awesome.

Yeah man, usually the stolen car threads bring the "we should beat so and so's ass" people out of the woodwork.

Now we want to beat a 15 yr old girl. Man, we are making the import fags look tough here...

And fwiw, definately when you pull that fender, you might want to pull the whole front end or at least seriously compare the cowl on both sides. Judging by how the fender bottom stepped out Id say the mounting tab on the cowl where the fender bolts too might be a little beat.

That sucks. But...what can you do. Mistakes are made. You could fly of the handle and yell and scream and when you were done she'd feel worse, you'd still be mad and the car would still need fixxin'. Hold her accountable (there's a good life lesson here someplace) teach her how to make things right when you screw up.

Move forward. Someday you will probably look back and laugh together.

My 18 year old parked my excursion in the quarter panel of my wifes CRX.....I had him strip the paint and he learned to use a dentpuller and bondo....He's more careful now!!!! Fact is accidents happen, doesn't mean anyone should get beat over it,but they should be held responsible.

  21. You're still gonna kick her ass,right?
Just kidding! It's bad enough that you're on a shoestring budget, trying to fix up your Merc,HA HA! But that just breaks your heart...

  22. This is a good example though of why the first few times a kid drives a car should be in an empty parking lot, like at the mall on Sunday morning. Especially a teenage girl, how hard can it be to get any one of them to go to the mall? Make them practice starting, stopping, parking, slow speed stuff that gives them a good handle on the controls of the car and how it's going to react before they start driving on the road.

The first time I drove a car all I did was back it out of a parking spot, turn it around and put it back. I stopped like every 2 feet and got out and looked to make sure I wasn't too close to the other cars. I was bored waiting for my mom and the family dog at the vet's office. It was kind of silly I suppose, but I've never once hit the wrong pedal by accident.

Good attitude, though, there's not much point in reading the girl the riot act. But her parents probably should be paying for repairs -

And to think...she is going to be out on the road driving, and this was only from backing down a driveway. You have a good attitude about it all.
