Good seeing you guys at the party on Friday! BTW, George's used to be Grisinger's in the 50's- It's a real-deal drive in, (not just a "50's diner") My dad used to hang out there. Welch's restaurant was diagonally across from it, which was a backdrop for a few car features in the little books.

    Cheers, Keith

Thanks for the coverage, Denise. It's great for the folks half a world away to see what's happening when we can't be there. Magic!!

Awesome! I wish I could've been there. You're right about the prices...who knows what all of the "good deals" would have sold for if all of the "if I would've know I would've gone"'s had actually gone.

  9. Gotta watch out for Denise! She gets "real friendly",LOL....
(PS-I'll autograph a copy of my book and send it to you, hahaha)

It's no where near a good enough shot....just because it's vertical does not make it calendar worthy.......unlike what some other people think;) Thanks for the kudos though.

    You need my address???:D

  15. Denise, good to see you're back on the job. Looking at the report makes me want to have been there also. I feel some sadness not knowing where some of the cars will end up.

To me it seems like there was some good deals or at least fair. that million dollar chevelle for $240 I think will be a good buy in the future when the market turns around.

the La jolla seems like it went cheap. as did a few others..

So the story left off as we hopped in the cars and headed toward the Petersen. In the meantime my Father, who had decided shortly before I left NOT to have me bid on the ‘49 Olds, had been calling me all morning asking me questions about the car. I really didn’t have any answers for him EXCEPT for the fact that I had ridden in it the night before and it seemed to not only run fine but shift, stop and steer fine as well. I had not checked the body over as I thought I was not going to bid on it. Well Dad probably stewed about it for a few days and was now thinking maybe he should find out more about it. So now the plan was to check the Olds over very carefully with a fine tooth comb as soon as we get there.

We arrive and park in the structure. LOTS of cool cars everywhere
    [IMG]
We parked on the first main floor and Brad and Megan thankfully went to the top floor and straight to the tent as the manifold she wanted was going to be up on the block soon…..she thought. Well as they walked in the piece she wanted was already on the block and was about to be hammered down. She made the last and final bid and WON it!

We kinda had a little celebration hug and dance then Scott and I moved on to find the Olds and check it out in detail, major detail.

Scott was a HUGE help pulling back carpet, pointing out flawed paint, rust holes etc. Megan joined us and helped check out the undercarriage. Thanks guys! Dad appreciated your help.

I know my Dad and while the interior was presentable it was not his style besides the fact the headliner had a tear and the drivers door was very stained
    [IMG]

The engine compartment was nice, clean and tidy
    [IMG]

Major paint chip on the door

While we were checking out “Green Olds” our good pal Tom McIntyer walks up. What a pleasant surprise. Regular readers of my adventure stoies might remember the tour of his awesome warehouse full of car that we visited during the GNRA weekend this past Jan. Anyway, we had a wonderful visit and parted company with promises to stop and visit him the next time were in town. He’s such an AWESOME man….they sure don’t grow them like him anymore.

The LaJolla keeping Green Olds company both waiting to head to their new homes

Checked out a few cars on our way back to the tent

They looked so much better out in the sunshine

I waited and waited hoping to get a good shot out in the sunshine but these two just kept detailing and detailing. Oh well, the car did look stunning
    [IMG]

So most of the car swere out of the tent except for a few around the sides. Lots of chairs set up as you can see facing the screens and where they were rolling the cars in and lots of standing room in the front part of the tent as you walk in. This is where the bar is and RM’s offices were set up. Really nice setup
    [IMG]

Our good buddy Jerry Dixey was in attendance and is also good for a few hugs.

    My favorite roadster ever
    [IMG]

HotRodDon came up and introduced himself. GREAT to finally meet you bud. Wish we would have had longer to chat. We’ll have to make a point of it next time

They had Mike Alexander up on the podium talking about the Deora. He received a HUGE round of applause.

That’s Ralph’s head at the bottom right
    [IMG]

Instead of “Were’s Waldo?” we’re going to play “Were’s Dave?”

Not sure how long of a time frame took place between the above photo and this photo but notice how many people have left? When people started streaming out I thought for sure we had a better chance at the Olds. Oh yeah, Dad did want it and between Me, Dad, Scott and Megan we decided I’ll go as high as $16K and after the 15% fee and the $1,575 shipping fee (I had already checked with two companies) that we’d we in at approx $20K and at that price Dad was happy. I really didn’t think it was worth that but it’s his money. Anyway it opened at $25K and sold one bid later at $26K. Not worth that at all in my book. Dad’s on a hunt now. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one sitting in dad’s garage by springtime.

Right about now as I’m standing up toward the front taking this photo my cell goes off with text messages cuz I guess the guys could see me on the live feed. I didn’t know they would be doing that or I would have waved. Anyway just wanted you guys to know I don’t text so that is why I didn’t return them.

Auction is now over and we’re milling around deciding where we’re going for dinner.
    Holly gets Dave’s autograph.::D

There’s alittle backstory with this guy. Most of the day I’m standing in the back to the right side next to this guy. Shortly after I got there we started a conversation about real estate after he asked where I was from. Anyway we chatted for about 5 hours on and off about everything under the sun. It was kinda one of those situations where you feel you’ve known the person for years even though you’ve just met. We introduced each other to our friends that walked over to say hi…..it was funny how many mutual ones we had. I love it when I can make a new friend. I can’t remember what kind of drag race car he has but he invited us over to check it out next time were in town. Oh yeah, found out he’s a lurker on the HAMB. One of these days maybe he’ll register and join in the fun. Come on Karpo, say “hi”

Karpo then introduced me to this fella that purchased the BootHill Express for his buddy who resides in the Burbank area.

We had a bit of a wait while the auction winners took their turn with the RM personal to pay for their items. Once paid for didn’t take Megan long to hunt down someone to pull her item outta the case. I don’t think she could have been happier.

Coby also got his shirt. Great score bud!

Mark said I could sit on the tire and touch it.

What a way to end the day.

Stay tuned as we head over to Beau's place for an amazing tour of a big boys toy box.
