  3. Now that is a waste of a very nice car, about the only time you will ever hear me say, 'this would be better in fiberglass'.
    F'o shame.

if I make 1% of the impact that he made on OUR HOBBY,I would gladly be compared to BOYD CODDINGTON.

i guess i'll have to dust off my flower print shirts and grow a beard.:D

the way i look at it is.this car will be a hot rod.taking a car from a slow, poor driving stocker,to a wolf in sheeps clothing,is what hot rods are about.

this thread has gotten the EXACT responce that i expected.even if this was my car i would do the same thing we are planning for my customer.

stay tuned.even the haters will like it when we are done.

There is nothing you can do to that car, short of returning it to stock, that will make like what it is when you are done as long as I see what you started with.

That car is too nice and far too valuable to do what you are doing even under the guise of 'it's what the customer wants'. In my opinion, you're customer is an ass hat and has more money than he knows what to do with.

Yes it's his car and yes he can do with it as he pleases. And yes I think he's a douche bag for doing this to that car. I'd say you are like a Nazi sympathizer in this, but that would be too harsh. What he is doing is just wrong and you're helping him do it.

I'm the first guy to cringe when these hackers talk about cutting up their new A sedan to chop and channel it, but I will give YOU a very big thumbs up! I know YOU have the skills to make this car all that it deserves to be. Starting with a nice car, but ending with an even nicer car.

Guess nobody noticed what that red roadster looked like when you started that project. :)

I'm jealous I wish I could start with something that nice. You never said your going destroy anything. Sounds like its going to be a cool hot rod when your done. We have all seen your work on here before and people should have no doubts of the finished product. I say go for it. BTW 600 horse small block I say hell yeah. Hot rods should be fast.

  13. Ya Fuc*ed up there, ya did!

I can see rodding a car that is not complete, or needs work anyway. But to take a car like that and do what you're doing...you're right...let the beatings begin!

I hope you realize I mean you no disrespect. I just extremly disagree with what is being done to that car given what it is and the condition it started in.

If this thing were in the hands of some of the guys here, I would shudder and shed a tear, but this has the potential to really, really put You on the nation wide Map. document the hell out of it!

Should fly with a 427 mated to a Tremec. Build it to your liking and don't worry about what others think. My first car was a '48 Ford with a warmed-over 8BA out of a '49 (everything else was pretty much stock). Built it in '87 and back then everyone told me to ditch the flathead, install a small-block, slap mags on it, go with modern bucket seats, digital dash it, etc, etc.....20 years later and now traditional is in. My point is go with what you like and let the trends come and go as they may.

  20. Sounds like a great build plan Danny. It's funny how so many on here bitch that their starting material is so rough and how they wish they had started with a better car but when it's "too nice" they think you're an idiot for cutting it up. I say it's a great start but will be even a better finish based on your plans for it. And you're right, the naysayers will jump on the bandwagon once the progress pics start showing up.

PS, glad you're losing the doodads :D

First off I'm shocked that there are so many restorers on this board. This is about traditional hot rods folks. For those who don't understand (and again I'm amazed at how many there are) "back in the day" a hot rodder bought the "best" car he could afford (reread that) to build a hot rod out of. Then he used whatever resourses available to him to build a faster, safer, better looking vehicle that suited his needs/desires. Some went strictly for speed (usually a little rougher end product) and put all of his resourses into going fast. Some were the show off crowd and painted, chromed and upolstered to the nines in order to impress show judges. Then there were the those of "means" (read big bucks) that went the extra mile and had a fast AND good looking car. Some of the most memorable cars from the past were above average in both catagories...........that's what made them memorable.
I'm wondering how many that have dissed this build and had the resourses of say a George Poteet would purposely go out and drag a rusted POS out of a ditch just so they could keep from cutting up a stocker.
It's also apparent that a lot of folks here haven't followed one of your builds. There is no place I can think of (even the high profile shops) where this car would be better off. You guys do phenominal work. Tell the naysayers to stuff it Danny, and get to work making this car a stunning example of hot rodding that most on this board could only dream of.
Whew!! Glad I got that out this morning. The rest of the day is sure to go better.:D

Regardless of what type of rod you built "back in day", at a minimum you always wanted to go a little faster. And as Frank suggested, some wanted to go a lot faster.....in this case, I think Danny is set to do the latter.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Haha, look at all the TRUE COLORS showing through here. If I'm understanding half of these replies, these guys are saying they would rather own a really nice, original stocker than a hot rod?!

I've always thought a handful of each example of our old cars should be preserved for, well, preservation sake, historical importance and what not. But as long as some are sealed up in protective ZIPLOC baggies, the rest of 'em? Cut 'em.

Danny, keep the rest of us posted, you guys do exceptional work and I love seeing the HOT RODS you fellers turn out.

I agree, I'm ALL FOR cutting up nice cars......however, the parts list for this car doesn't sound all that traditional....

Do the 350/350 cars have to move there too? That combination isn't exactly traditional.
