  1. Hey, all,

My name is Chad. Long story short, when I was a kid, my dad had an old 1954 3100 Chevy pickup. We drove around Michigan occasionally to the beach, until one day when the old swapped-in 327 developed a miss. It sat in the garage for years, and 30 years later, I yanked it out of the barn to see what was amidst. On the last day I was visiting from the west coast, we found it had a broken valve spring.

Yet another five years later, he called to tell me he wanted it gone, free of charge. I payed to have it shipped to Washington here, and I'm pretty excited.

It fires up now, after replacing the ballast resistor, though roughly. It'll run, but only after it warms up, because a person way back when physically removed the choke flap on the air horn from the Holley 600 for unknown reasons.

To start from scratch, it has a 327 250hp swapped in circa 1971, rebuilt at that time by my pops. It was from an old moving van according to my dad. When I pulled off the oil pan, it appeared to be polished, like a steel crank. He put in a 350hp L-79 cam, Rams horn exhaust manifolds, a C4B Edelbrock intake. He welded up an engine cradle/mount so he didn't have to ditch the sold front axle setup. The engine sits a tad high in the front.

The transmission is a T-10 close ratio from a GTO, apparently. Rear end is a 3:36 positrac, from a '57 210, that my dad pulled out of a scrapyard way back when (he's regretful about that). He sent it with a spare carb, a Holley 2599 that was rebuilt at some point by his buddy, but is evidently off of an old Ford 390 according to my research. I have no idea what I am getting myself into with that.

As it sits, it needs a carb, brakes ( still has original drums) new tires ( still has Firestone wide ovals), a windshield gasket, some new mufflers, and maybe an updated ignition, as points are beyond my years (HEI is when I came into the game ) and my knowledge. I was born in 1973. I'm going to do a full fluid change from front to rear soon, and have the radiator recored this winter during the wet season.

I'll post up some pics, when I figure out how to do that, my phone doesn't seem to recognize how to do that here. I'm looking forward to picking your ears, and cruising with that big 'ole Hurst shifter, with the chrome eyelids on the headlights, and those awesome baby moon caps on the steel wheels.

    Greetings to you all,
    Chad A.

  3. Thanks, Ron, it'll take me a while, but I hope to have her cruising along in the next year or so.

By the way, the username I chose is based on the old ornament that dangles from the rear view mirror. It's a bit faded, but says "Here Come The Judge ". :)
