So I'm out driving tonight, winding down backroads, testing the brake booster I just put in. And I'm speeding along, when out of the bushes rolls this skunk. Nothing test brakes better than slamming them to the ground. Well needless to say, I ran the little sucker over. He was hauling ass, I seemed to be hauling more. Luckily he did not get a chance to piss all over the FFB (Full Fendered Beauty). I decided I got lucky and parked it for the night. But all in all it was a nice night to be out driving, skunks and all.

I think the FFB narrowly missed being the SFFB (Stinky full-fendered beauty). Glad the brakes work, and that it wasn't a deer!

yeah I'm not into playing smear the deer. Back roads are nice rides, but man with the tall weeds you can't go too fast. Never know what will pop out. Could be a chupacabre. hahaha

I hit one in a VW Bug one time. The bottom of the motor must've skinned that skunk pretty good, cause the stink stayed with the car for months... Nasty.

Florida doesn't have many (if any) skunks, so my native Floridian wife hadn't ever really seen them. We moved up to Georgia, are on a dirt road near our house, and I see this black, furry critter with a white head and a fat ass waddling across the road. (Georgia skunks have white stripes on the head, but a black body, mostly). At the same time we both realize what it is and yell, in perfect unison, "It's a Skunk!" Except I'm saying it like "Oh shit!" while she's saying it like "Aw! How cute!" I slam on the brakes and come to a sliding stop. I then throw it into reverse at the exact same instant she swings the door open.
Again, in perfect unison, we both yell "What are you doing?!" Only the underlaying sound of mine is "What the fuck are you doing?! That's a SKUNK!" and her underlying theme is "What are you doing?! That's a skunk--I've never seen one and I want to get out and look at the cute little critter!"
We looked at each other with matching "are you CRAZY?!" looks, and I repeated "it's a SKUNK." At which point it all came together. The door closed, the truck reversed, we laughed and the skunk went home with a great story about the couple of nuts in the truck it almost got to spray.

8. Sometimes you get lucky, I remember a night years ago I took the dog for a walk and he ended up nose to nose with a skunk, with me 10 feet or so away, and he didn't spray us. Maybe mostly because I tore ass and ran around the other side of the house and called the dog over to me, so the skunk had a place to go where I wasn't. But when you hit one with a car, he usually doesn't have room to spray - they spray out the tail - so you have to hit him and kill him usually to make a mess.

dont hit one with yer bosses truck,my boss let me use his truck to take a customer home, the lady was well dressed and said something to the effct of "what a intresting old truck" (a 63 chevy.new drivetrain but old holey floors with floor mats and a couple pieces of sheet metal as a temperary fix) she made sure i to tell me she would never let any of her family keep or be seen in an "undriveable antique". I was trying to seem like i cared what she was saying and did nt realize a skunk was heading strait for my drivers front wheel. i saw a flash of black and felt a huge THUMP instantly the truck was filled with smelly skunk spray i hardly got the truck stopped befor i bailed out and she beat me out of the truck!! to make a long storie short she sent her husband to pick up their car, my boss had to come get her in a new car, and i got to drive the truck back and spend quality time with it in the wash bay!

Here's a recipe to save:
What you need
Next go to a drug store and get the following, if needed:

1 quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.
Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).
1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda
1 teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap
1 pair of plastic or latex gloves

To Use
Bathe the dog outside or, if it's too dark or cold, in the bathroom with the door closed and window opened.
Combine the ingredients in an open container (do not store in a sealed bottle--it will explode).
Using gloves, wash your dog with lukewarm water and the mixture while the mixture is bubbling. Work the mixture well into the fur.
Be sure to concentrate on the area that was sprayed.
Keep mixture away from your dog's face and eyes (it's a harsh solution). (If your dog has been sprayed in the face, try Tricotine Liquid Douche Concentrate or any over-the-counter douche.)
Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes or so before rinsing off.
Rinse the dog with lukewarm tap water. Don't wash the mixture into your dog's eyes (use a washcloth to cover the eyes if you're rinsing the head).
After bathing, check your dog's eyes. If they are red and watering, your dog may have taken a direct hit in the face. Skunk spray won't blind the dog, but it's very painful. Contact a vet.

How it works
First a quote from Dr. Caceci of Texas A&M University:

Forget what you have heard about tomato juice--it doesn't work. Skunk spray is mainly composed of low molecular weight thiol compounds. ("Thiols" are compounds with the "-SH radical" attached to a carbon atom.) In industrial applications, alkaline hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is used for scrubbing similar compounds from waste gas streams.
Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, when combined, become a "chemical engine" for churning out oxygen. That's why it has to be used immediately after mixing. The soap breaks up the oils in the skunk spray, allowing the other ingredients to do their work.

I think it would work on a car as well as you and your dog. Forget tomato juice...

PS...you can stockpile the ingredients, but not mixed. The peroxide will finish reacting and go flat after combination.

13. A few years ago a friend's mother, who lived on a farm, called me and said her dog had dragged back a skunk and left it in the middle of their yard, and asked if I could come remove it. At this point the dog hadn't started shredding it, so out I wnet and double bagged it, and threw it in the back of my truck, fully intending to toss it out at the dump the next day. The wife and I were over at a buddy's place having a few that night when discussion shifted to one of the local meatheads down the street, and how he was becoming more and more 'unhinged'. After a few more beers, and under the cover of darkness, me and my buddy snuck down the alley and tossed Pepe Le Pew over his fence for his three Nova Scotia duck tollingt retrievers to use as a chew toy....:)

14. I had a skunk under my deck that we named Petunia (The third...there have been several skunks named that around here) that never sprayed and you never knew it was there until it walked out from under the deck between your legs and looked up at you. We had no problems with each other.

They are fearless little guys with a powerful spray, and they are almost blind. Don't startle them, and you will be fine. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone.

Years ago in my small Oklahoma hometown, a few of us were sitting on mainstreet late one Saturday night when a skunk showed up.

Having consumed a few adult beverages, our buddy Red proceeded to tell us if you sneak up behind them and grab'em by the tail, you can get them off the ground before the get a chance to spray you.

Red then procceeded to demonstrate said theory and he ALMOST got the skunk off the ground, took one square in the face. Once we stopped laughing at the dumbass, we took him to the carwash and hosed him down, afterwhich he went home and crawled in bed with his new wife. And he wondered why that marraige didn't last long, go figure.

I sprayed by one of those son of a bitches once. Covered my whole left side especially my hand. Every time I would reach to go put food in my mouth I would gag for a about 2 weeks. We will just chalk this up as a win for us, and thank god your brakes were working just fine.

The best advice I can give you for deer, after years of experience is that there is rarely only One. If you have one deer cross the road, slow way down, because there are probably more behind them. You know, the second mouse gets the cheese.

I've hit many deer in my day, a opossum or two, and a giant cat. But this was the first skunk. I hit a groundhog once knocked him senseless, then he woke up and stumbled off the road. The funniest was when the owl banked off my windshield. The first time I ever saw a pissed off owl bitching through the woods.
