If anyone goes to the outer banks be sure to stop at the Wright Bros. memorial at Kill Devil Hills. You can stand EXACTLY where the Wright brothers stood when they made the first airplane flight. They have the replica of the plane inside, that alone is worth the stop. But the sense of history is overwhelming there....and don't accedentally drive your rental car onto the sand at Corrolla, it's really easy to do....
Thanks for all the ideas we had a great time. The house we stayed at was fabulous there in Corolla. Went to Kitty Hawk one day and I have to say it was pretty cool to stand on the spots that Wilber and Orville took off and landed on. Went down to Hatteras island one day and rode the ferry over to ochacoake island which was a neat experience. Rented jeeps from the dealer at kitty hawk and spent a day on the beach hanging and having fun driving up to the virginia state line. Couldn't believe all the houses that are up that far that you can't get to during high tide or without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Coming back down the beach a big lumber wagon p***ed us after he had delivered something to one of the homes and it was kind of a surprise to see him hauling *** up the beach in that big truck. When we took the jeeps back I understood why there's no old cars out there on the outer banks, some of the brand new jeeps on the lot were already rusted around the headlight bezels and anything aluminum under the hood was already corroded and they were expecting someone to buy them, amazing. Got to climb a few light houses . All in all we had a great time so thanks for giving me ideas.
My fiancee and I were there between X-mas and New Years. Loved it. You will like it. Weather will be better than we had, though mid 50's was pretty good for December compared to single digits back here at home.
My family is leaving for Ocracoke Island tomorrow after work. The week following I get to file for unemployment. Nothing too bad (3) one week rounds of rolling layoffs and most likely another (2) later in the year. Mangament was pretty decent about warning us of things to come. I had enough time to squirrel a couple of weeks salary aside
