Ah, the good old days! The May, 1957 issue of "Speed Age" Magazine has an ad on the back cover for "Peak Nitro Fuel" which will "Thermalcharge" your engine. The ad says your favorite speed shop owner should have it in 1 gallon cans to 55 gallon drums in stock! How cool is that! Thanks to Miles Long for the info...........
Wonder how many guys turned their motors into scrap buying "over the counter"! I'm sure everyone headed the warning about properly modifing the engine and following the mixing instructions, right?
Since it's part of the fuel system, I'd figure most folks buying it would adhere to the American hot rodders theory of carboration: "If some is good, more is better, and too much is just enough". bang!
I like the part about "50% deposit required on all C.O.D. orders". Do you think UPS would still deliver a couple gallons of nitro to your house these days???
From what I've read, we almost lost the ability to buy it at all with all the new regulations on stuff that can be used by terrorists for making explosives! Dave
According to an online inflation calculator http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm, $4.55 in 1957 would be worth $35.60 today.
