I am running a 700r with a rochester 3x2 setup on a 283. I used the Haywire lockup kit with the vacuum switch. I can't get the thing to shift into overdrive. The kit says it needs a ported vacuum source that has no vacuum when the throttle is closed. After checking, my vacuum line has a little vacuum at idle. Could this be the problem, or does the single 2 barrel not draw enough vacuum to actuate the switch when at full throttle? If so, how can I fix it? I though about just putting a push button switch on the dash but then I would have to remember to turn it off all the time. Any ideas? I have a 3:70 gear in the rear and really need overdrive!
Plowboy, I dont think thats your problem. If you can give me more info I can help you I'm sure. I need to know what year 700 you have, are the other shifts on time or are they late?If you have a pre 1988 its real easy to fix it so you dont need that vacuum set up at all.It sounds like you have the wrong governor springs in it for your rear end ratio. If you want you can call me & I can coach you through it.(715) 835-1628 during business hrs. I called Dave and he was quite helpful. I am going to gut my tranny this evening and ship the parts to him for some modifications. I wish I would have known what I know now before shelling out 75 bucks for a lockup kit I don't need. Thanks Dave!
