used stock chev 1.6 inch and had my buddy at the machine shop shorten them. The keeper grooves are at the correct length for a flatty. they just need a bit off the end.
Ill bump this as I would like to know if there is a down side to using a reground cam as well as if there is any opinion on 1.5 or 1.6 chevy valves or if anyone has an opinion on using pinto valves as I heard they work sweet in flatheads.
The biggest problem with a reground cam, and chev valves.. Is adjusting lifters . The combination of lower cam base circle and 0.100" longer valves means the adjusters are way down in the lifter bore, and unless you have cut reliefs in the bores and drilled them down low to lock the lifters, a valve adjustment can take hours and hours . It's fine if you are doin a complete rebuild, do the work and the chev valves work great.. And are cheap! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Can someone give me a clue - if I want 1.600 Chevy valves to use in my flatty (shortened if necessary) Which model, year and engine should i be looking for? Am I looking for exhaust valves? Am I thinking use chev exhausts for flatty inlets? (Sorry for the hi-jack) Thanks, Mart.
Yes, they are exhaust valves. All of the high performance heads from 327s and 350s that used 2.02 intake valves used 1.6 exhaust valves, starting in 1964.
