Just got off phone with Ozzie. I offered him a radiator I had. I was going to next day air it to him. He is already repaired and back on the road. He was just going to hit the 100 mile mark after repair.

Just talked to him, and he was at mile marker 97 gassing up, going to check it and make sure all looked ok. They reworked the tank and such on the radiator, two new bottom hoses, and he took off. Said he was going to make it to the Florida line tonight and may stop for some sleep, but keep him in your prayers......Amen

Glad to hear he's back OTR & heading south. Traveling at night may help with the "no fan" situation....hope he times his departure tomorrow morning to miss the rush hours of Orlando & S.FLA...

I keep watching the Ozzie Saga. How is the trip goingsince the radiator repair? I've got my fingers crossed that makes it home without further challanges.

The power of the HAMB at work. I wish I could have been some help, but the North east is a long way from Georgia.

He stayed in Tifton at the Walmart last night, got on the road this morning and is finally back in Florida. Running a 12 volt battery, so he ought to be able to make it a while with no generator , as he is now having more problems with the charging system!

Not to take anything away from him as he's having a great adventure?. But this is a perfect example of not trusting what the other guy tells you as far as it's ready to do a long trip. A trailer would have been the ticket for this jaunt and saved him a lot of headaches. The guy may have driven it daily but never out on the highway. One of the worst cars I ever owned was a low mileage car that about 2 months after buying it found out it hadn't been out of the city in over 3 years. When I started running the highway (60 mi per day) with it everyday I had nothing but problems.

I never told him that it would make it, I drove it around town only. We had discussed him towing it home, but he wanted to drive it, so don't put the blame on the other party until you have all the info...... He's calling me all the time, so I will keep all posted. He has made it to the Florida turnpike at exit 280 so far, and still going

Well I apologize for thinking you told him it would do the long trip. But my thoughts on it being a town driven car only was certainly right on the mark. Maybe someone will get a lesson out of this experience at Ozzie expense

Whats a trip w/o a bit of adventure - sure it can be frustrating at the time, but you learn so much about the car.

Sometimes these things just happen - idler/fan pulley locking up, radiator tank splitting, generator dying - hard to say when these types of things will happen & could just as easily be around town as out on the road.

I seem to have fewer breakdowns on the road vs around town - steady-state cruise is less strain on all components than stop, go, stop, steer, pothole, etc around town...

I do think there tend to be more vibration related failures on the road though...

Well I'm a gearhead, been one for over 50 years and I don't understand the reasoning behind not having your car in condition to make a run! If you consider breaking down along the road and the inconvenience of it all fun fine, I don't think that way. Ask Ozzie if he had it to do over again if he would elect to do it the same way. Before you say I don't drive mine much it's been to Ca. twice in the last 14 months. I've put 13,000 mi on it this year and it's not the daily driver.

Cars are a crapshoot, no matter how well prepped that you think they are. Anything can break at anytime. I've driven a 2 year old used car that I maintained myself to Fla. that didn't make it without repairs. I also drove a $100 Olds straight out of a junkyard in Galax, Va with a battery that wouldn't hold a charge and a leaky waterpump back here to Ohio without a single problem. Just goes to show you never can tell.....

Amen to that also......lets send a prayer up for Ozzie tonight before we lay our heads down....Dear Lord, thank you for watching over Ozzie, giving him the guts to do what he has done, all the support of the Hammers that has help, and or has given him a call. Watch over all us Gearheads, as we do what we do best, even if we don't ALL have Hwy. worthey cars.....In your name I pray...Amen

Did you read my first post about this? I didn't say one thing against Ozzie, I just said that trailering the car would have saved him a lot of headache. As far as helping you if you broke down around here just call me. Then again from your last two sentences you probably won't.

I contacted him the other night and offered my help of a radiator I have in the shed and he said he had already got that fixed it and was on the road. But as a kid my dad and I made countless miles in anythig from my old Henry-J that the battery was leaking and making it unbearable to breath, to a 50 Merc that had sit for years and we made half of the trip with a gas can in the front seat and a hose hanging out the window, to being vapor locked on the side of the road in a 36 Dodge pickup truck and pulling over every 30--45 minutes to let it cool down enough to run another 30 minutes. Each one of these trips to a destination of 500 miles or more. It was funny how help just finds you when you need it most and it seems the H A M B has made the help so much easier to get in your time of need. I would not trade any of those times for them to have turned out any different because it taught me to be prepared and think on my feet in time of trouble, not only on the side of the road but in every day life.

Got Home in one piece, I didn't know which post to start adding pics and info, so I added it to another post on here. All the support was and IS greatly appreciated!. I've posted a bunch of pictures. To think one of the young Production Assistants on Miami Ink knew I was going to go get a car I had bought and drive it down, he asked if he could go with me and document the buying of the car and driving it back. I told him Sure and when i told him the flight information, He backed out, understandibly cause the one way flights from Miami to Huntsville are like triple! what Miami /LA ROUNDTRIPS are., If I were to have gone driving another car, he would have tagged along and video taped it all, and Now in Hindsight or HAMB sight, he would have had a very interesting piece, I would have had to make a little drama like throwing things, running down the highway in my skivies in 30 degree weather, etc.. You know for the ratings on Youtube!!, Geeting Filthy Dirty, etc.. But I can't wait to get back to work and tell him what he missed. That 13.5 hour drive turned into a 73 hour Amazing Race!

    Thanks to all,
    Ozzie

Hi Folks, I'm back but still need a radiator as the tank on the top of mine has very few drives left, it's weak and will break out new holes any moment, not to mention it was recored long ago the wrong way with the tank slid front instead of back on top of the core. Anyone with a radiator for a Flathead in a shoebox with good tanks, I'll take it and have it recored down here. Don't want to pay $580 for one if I don't have to...

    Thanks...
