Jeb is one heck of a metal man, you should see the jet nosed 27 roadster he did for me, it looks like it's going to blow you away from the front. And the best part is when you take off the nose, my cut down 29 shell fits right up to the hood for street runnen. Very cool guy.--TV PS cool car Bob
Dude I think this is my 1000th post. What a way to bring it up, Im blown away !! That is aswsome work and fantastic attention to detail. A lot of forethought and planning has to go into a ride like that - CONGRATS !! Definatel of the best rides being put together by a HAMBer IMHO !! I cant wait to see this thing finished and see you racing at the lakes !! Keep us updated man !! Rat
how much did you stretch the tail? total length now? also what is your wheelbase? i have 2 tanks that are the same as that i wont be building for a little while but im collecting parts and thoughts now looks great zach
Hmmmmmm.... Wonder if I should build one of these to get back and forth to work.... Very nice! regards, DJ
Ben, Yes, those are your old seat backs.... I took two backs and made one seat out of them,, It worked great. They look very aircraft don't they? Zach, I'll take measurements and get back to you.
Thanks! Pictures have been saved. As odd as that one looks, I do like it! Any more info on that one? Isn't as nice as the one Bobby is building. Then again, not many cars are as nice as that one is turing out to be! regards, DJ
Great work, very inspiring to say the least Is there a techincal reason you have negative Ackerman? I would expect to see the steering arms straight back and set at the same distance apart as the king pins to zero the toe change. The way it appears in the pictures toe in would increase with steering angle (negative Ackerman). I realize this isn't a car built for corners but I would think any toe change would unbalance the car at high speeds.
I was more concerned about the rack being bolted to the chassis creating toe changes through travel. Still, nice work.
This is "way to cool"! In Tucson there are some aircraft salvage yards next to the DMAFB that chop up ex-military planes. I have seen several "tanks" in one yard off Kolb Road and often thought about the old belly tank hot rods. It is so neat to see someone who is building one! Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
Now thats POD racing!!!!! The best projest Ive seen in years My hats off to ya (watch out for the glare)
The Ackerman is there to gain aerodynamics. The steering arms are set back into the wheel and will be covered with an inner wheel disc getting all that stuff out of the wind, the little amount of steering that will be taking place should not be adversly affected. And as for the rack being mounted to the frame, the front end is very stiff, and only has about an inch to inch and a half of play, so it shouldn't be a problem. If anything doesn't jive during the test runs, it can always be changed, but I won't know til I know. You know?
Rick, The ultimate down the road goal is to go 200. For now, I'll go as fast as I can. When that big truck full of expendible cash drops a load in my driveway, then I'll work on 200. LOL.
Bobby That's awesome. Even more so since you've chosen to run a banger. I'll be looking forward to seeing it in your indy trailer next August. Are you going to set up your roadster as a push car? Mike
Just wanted to say that I think this rules. I've watched every update and I don't think I've ever commented. THANKS FOR POSTING THEM. The tank looks great.
You could keep the VW torsion bar suspension, but would still need to do something different for shocks. Maybe an arm setup with a shaft going inside the body with another arm connected to a shock? I'm assuming you're flipping the ring gear side to side in the VW diff and running the flat head V-8 in the middle... sort of obvious, I guess! I'd be tempted to use the VW torsion bar front suspension also... same shock problem though. If you're building a body something along the lines of a soap box derby racer would be easier to fab and still look cool. Those things are pretty darned slippery!
out of curiousity why did you not run suspension on the rear? or is this a standard boneville thing? or should i just shut up?
