Has anyone ever reconstructed a Pennsylvania salvage title? I found a clean truck in a PA junkyard that's ready to go.. only problem is that it has a salvage title. Is Harrisburg going to bust my balls when I try to reconstruct the title?

    Thanks,
    Ed

    ed,
    if it has a title,
usually salvage title means that its marked or stamped salvage... thats it.

If it has a title and its marked your fine, it just lets people know its been in an accident thats sustained 70% or more of its value...

    Ed,

You need to submit a couple of forms to Penn DOT:
A Form MV-1 to Apply for the title
    The Salvage title
AND Form MV-426, “Application for Reconstructed/Specially Constructed Vehicle.”

The last form is available here.
It's the only part that complicates the process.

Oh! and a salvage title only means that CarMax won't take it as a trade in.....

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

Deuce Rails: Thanks for the info. The DMV wasn't even as usefull as that. After reading through the form, it seems like it will cost me $142 and a big headache.

Toke: Thanks. I'll call you (a loser).

FeO2: The guy with the ford wanted A LOT more than it's worth. Like a whole lot more. Like imagine what you think a rusty car with a beat interior is worth and then triple it. Oh and that's too bad about the whole CarMax bit. That probably nixes the deal right there! Any chance you've got the hookup on a cheap daily? Are you coming to the Hoedown? Do you still want those 6-lug rims?

Sawzall: I finally got through to the right person at the NJ DMV, and she told me that the whole process would cost $200, require a really complicated inspection, and would take about two months. Fuck that.

PS- Charlie, how do you know about CarMax? That doesn't seem like your style.

Ed, Also make sure your insurance co. will insure a R title vehicle. I was going to buy a Harley with a R title and mine would not!

i agree with sawzall, many states have no title provision for a "salvage " or "rebuilt".... i don't know which ones, (i think Al. is one...) but if you do a little research, find one of those states, all it would cost is a title transfer.....

  11. Why do you want a reconstructed title. All of my trucks have regular tags and titles.
