Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rob-redm, Dec 21, 2008.

  1. Paul. I don't see a lot of footprints heading to the shop there. Just a lot of tire tracks heading out to buy more blankets. Have fun guys. I do miss some of you guys but not that crap on the ground. No hoodies here. Gawd that looks horrible. Miss ya bunches! I think I'll drive the rpu tomorrow and take some pictures just for fun. I hear Home Depot has a Christmas special on snow shovels and rock salt. Stock up boys. It's gonna be a long winter. Your buddy down south. Dale

You people are crazy for living like that!!!! I really don't know how you do it?. Way too cold for me!

Here in Texas if we get 1/8" of snow the whole state shuts down.

Where is all that global warming at when you need it??

  3. About 18" here.
Calling for another 1"-6" on Wed.
Gonna have to dig a path to the wood shed.

This is the most snow in December, since 1968 in the Portland area.
Early January 1969 brought another 14".......

    Some photos at dusk tonight.
My light-up plastic snowman is lookin' cool.

  4. I like living in Santa Barbara, CA. I can build hot rods all year. The only thing that slow me down is fires. Then I just move up the road until it is all out.

  5. Yea, yea, yea.... rub it in ........

I grew up in and lived all over the lower 1/2 of CA.
300 days a year of the same weather can get old too.

some benefits of where I live in Oregon:

    no sales tax
    no earthquakes
    no wildfires
no draughts and water is cheap
    no dust storms
    no flash floods
    no bugs to speak of
    no rattlesnakes
no L.A. weekenders or tourist swarms in buses

4 distinct but mild seasons (this snow storm is unusual)
property is 1/2 the price of CA
    wide open spaces
    clean and green, trees everywhere

haven't locked my house in 20 years
leave the keys in my cars
    build bonfires in my backyard

tons of 'car people' and events
    project cars easily found
$25 a year vehicle registration (good for 2 years)
2 dragstrips within 30 miles of my home

    real friendly people
    5 star medical facilities
cheap cost of living and good schools
traffic is casual but... Oregonians are shitty drivers

International Port and airport, 45 minutes away
2 different rivers 8 miles from home.. fish, ski, boat, raft
Columbia River Gorge is 40 minutes
    beach is 90 minutes
    desert is 2 hours
mountains (Cascades or Coast Range) 60 minutes
hunting, world class snow skiing and snowboarding

I have a garage heater and the snow will be gone soon.

    With all that said.........
I'm moving to the Grover Beach, CA area within the next 10 years.

Man I really feel bad for you Spokane guys.
My son lives there so I watch your weather on NWCN.

  6. Naw, nothin new to us. I was up shoveling the roof last night :D Suppost to get another 8-12" in the next day or two

  7. Great. Just great. Now there's going to be even more Cacafornians moving up here! You should also mention that we have the highest income tax in the nation, third (or 2nd) highest unemployment, and we're the meth capitol West of the Rockies. Seattle is the place to be!

Old Marine Corps buddy called me from Spokane last night, said he just
returned ffrom Mexico and the snow is axle deep to a Ferris wheel. Nuff said.

  10. I'm cracking up with all these posts. the N.W. (Portland anyways) isn't used to more than a couple inches every 3-4 years. when I lived in the mountains of Idaho we got 132 inches one year.
I do have a problem! I have 4 ten foot sliding doors on my shop and they are coragated (sp) steel and the ice has frozen in all the grooves and they no longer slide. I'm locked out and all my picks and shovels are in the shop.

  11. Well said, LowKat; it's still a great place to live!!

    Love your SNOW SCULPTURE!!

Don't listen to these guys, folks. Oregon sucks. You wouldn't like it here. California's where all the action is! Check it out!

The only place worse than Washington, would be Oregon, California is the place to be. I think I can find a bridge to sell if anyone is interested.

Yes my friend lives in Vancouver and has 14.5 inches, and doesnt own a snow shovel lol. I want to move out there from Pittsburgh sometime this year, once I secure a job and sell some collected projects. Snif, hate to move some of them but well, thats how it goes.

Would have moved out there this fall but no job lined up.

My friend has a 1964 Falcon Sprint Convertable. Was Rangoon Red with white top and red interior. He repainted it, red, but more of a orange red, not the blue red like the Rangoon color.

Need to move out there so I can make the end of the world rod run on a regular basis. :)

Dont worry gang, it will get up to 50 then Chehalis and Centralia can flood out at I5.

Betcha Timberline Lodge at Hood is packed this weekend!

  24. The rain will be coming, just a small chance of more snow tonite ! Hey Dale, just giving you a hard time. Do ya miss me ! Going to see Shawn's 40 Tudor sedan ( bad ass !) P.s. Bubba called he wants his purple hoodie back !

  26. not sure what's coming but we have 16 inches on the ground, icicles are dripping and what I shoveled today was starting to melt. they are predicting freezing rain tomorrow. sure hope they are wrong.

  27. small chance??? weatherman just said 2 to 6 inches more by morning. I hope you're right.

  28. We've got 14 inches on the ground. It was easy to drive through when the temps. were in the teens but now that it's warmed up even my 4-wheel drive pickup is struggling. Supposed to head down to the big city to spend Christmas with the kids tomorrow, if'n I can get out of the driveway...
