I need to clean up my Buick until I am ready to paint it or I clean out the garage. What should I do? Spray paint, grind or strip it and etch it? Or just leave it alone? I am thinking just to make it all one color would make it more presentable.

Looks like the body is pretty straight. Ill tell you this much, if you take your time, fix any imperfections, and put a good glossy paint job on it, you wont ever look at it and say, man, I wish I wouldnt have done that. Save the spray paint for the high school kids

Yeah, what shainerman said x2. Have you tried washing it? I was surprised how much surface rust I got off my chieftain with just some soapy water and elbow grease, the right front fender went from brown to turquoise in about 20 min.

It won't look like new but you might be surprised.

wash it, shine up the chrome and stainless, and leave it for now. Then do it right when you're ready and able.

I also vote to give it a CLR bath. It may end up looking really really cool with all the surface rust gone but the patina shining through

If the car is not being driven, just wash it good. If it is being stored inside, nothing more is necessary until you are ready to fix any body damage.
If it is being stored outside, just cover it. there are ready made car covers available, but the old 24 hr giant retailer tarp and a few bungie chords will work.
I would think any paint application would be a waste of money until you are ready to repair all damage and prepare the surface for paint.

I think I'll just clean my garage and work on it in there. If my wife has to walk past it everyday she'll literally be throwing money at me to get the damn thing out of there. I kind of like the sounds of that. Hey, why didn't I think of that?

Water always gets trapped between a tarp and a car and you wind up with a sh*t load of surface rust. Sure it's better than nothing, but clean your garage out and get it inside if you can.
